| Guest | Message Rules Problem I am using WLM (ver12.0.1606) with Vista. Last summer, when I got my new computer, I opted for WLM ,as it seemed to be the closet thing to OE. I set WLM up like my old OE, with 2 different POP email accounts I then set up message rules for different folders for email group lists, among other subjects. My frustration levels are increasing because WLM follows my message rules only some of the time. I formulated the message srules to be as specific as I could, basically the same way I had them in OE. HOWEVER: 1) Mail from groups as well as individuals I have added to the "Safe Senders" list end up in my Junk folder; 2) Some mail ends up in the wrong folder (other than Junk Mail), 3)Mail addressed to one account goes to the other account 4) Mail from blocked senders and blocked domains continues to come through I would prefer not to have to start over with another email program, if I can "fix" these problems. I don't like Yahoo Mail, and I haven't been able to successfully set up Outlook 2002 on this computer. I really don't want to have to buy the full version of Office just to get a newer version of Outlook, either I appreciate any help you can give, |

| 1337 spammer | Re: Message Rules Problem At this point the only advice I can give you is that you are not alone. I also have WLM and experience some of the same issues. One fix I came up with for incoming mail, is to not set the filter to "white list only" or only those email addresses in my contacts or in a list to come into my inbox. I only recently set the incoming mail filter to "High" to see if the incoming mail makes it to the correct folder. And we're not alone, others are having similar issues, and my guess it is software related which will take a fix from Microsoft to resolve. Hang in there, I'm hopeful a fix will be sooner rather than later. |

| Guest | Re: Message Rules Problem Do all rules include the option to Stop Processing More Rules ? If not subsequent rules may act on prior. Additionally, the order that rules are processed has a significant impact. Disable all rules, then enable one at a time and test -- ...winston ms-mvp windows live mail "Pat S" <PatS@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:F4E681B2-AF06-4271-8D64-2080DDCC01CA@xxxxxx

| Guest | Re: Message Rules Problem Winston- I apologize for not responding sooner to your suggestion about my Message rule problem. I did check all my rules and made sure the "end processing" part was added to each rule. I adjusted the order of my rules as well. I then hit "apply rule" for each individual rule. It met with no success; the same amount of mail is going to my Junk folder as before. What is really odd is that during a single download, part of the mail will go to the correct folder and part to the Junk folder, even though each item came from the exact same email list group. Every message met the exact criteria as listed in my message rule. It is very frustrating to have to spend time looking in every folder for "misdirected" new mail! Thank you again, "...winston" wrote:

| Guest | Re: Message Rules Problem How many rules do you have? You say, "message rules for different folders for email group lists". Are the folders for email group lists under the account folders or Storage folders? Is the rule condition based on an email or a domain address? 'Stop processing more rules' would be needed for rules where the action is move to another folder. What do you mean by '4) Mail from blocked senders and blocked domains continues to come through'? Junk mail should be in the Junk folder. You are still going to receive junk email. I would let the email go to the Inbox(es) and manually move the group list email after it was read. -- Ronald Sommer "Pat S" <PatS@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:C1383B33-3CC1-47D2-B0BA-9E3093F56BA5@xxxxxx

Verify your Safety Options for junk mail processing(Tools/Safety Options) Ensure that approved senders are in your address book To help troubleshoot..it sometimes helps to turn off all rules except one, test then enable. -- ...winston ms-mvp windows live mail "Pat S" <PatS@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:C1383B33-3CC1-47D2-B0BA-9E3093F56BA5@xxxxxx Winston- I apologize for not responding sooner to your suggestion about my Message rule problem. | Guest | Re: Message Rules Problem Ron: I have 12 Message Rules. The folders for which I have message rules are mostly for different Yahoo group email lists. They are under the account folders and are not storage folders. The rules email list folders are conditioned on the list addresses, such as XXXXXXX@xxxxxx,the "XXXXXXX" being the name of the email list. This is the address to which list members send emails, as well as the address from which the emails are received in my accounts. I use the either/or options in the rule, such as the name of the sender or the subject line, in order that only one option has to be satisfied for the rule to apply. I have "stop processing more rules" added to each rule. I realize that this is a different program from Outlook Express, but one would think that message rules are message rules, regardless of the email program. I used these same rules with OE with no problem. The only thing that has changed is my email program; the essage rules and folders remain the same. You asked "What do you mean by '4) Mail from blocked senders and blocked domains continues to come through'?" I mean that mail from blocked email addresses and domains still appears in my "Junk" folder. I was under the impression that the purpose of blocking mail addresses and domians is to stop their being downloaded at all. Thanks, Pat S. |

| Guest | Re: Message Rules Problem No amount of rules or their order will deter WLM from deciding that a given message is 'junk'. AFAIK, the internal junk rules are processed before the custom rules. Go to Tools, Safety Options, which setting are you using? If High, try it at Low or No Automatic Filtering. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (WLMail) "Pat S" <PatS@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:C1383B33-3CC1-47D2-B0BA-9E3093F56BA5@xxxxxx

| Guest | Re: Message Rules Problem No. The email program has to download the message in order to examine the body text for signs of spam. If positive, it is then dropped in the Junk E-mail folder. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (WLMail) "Pat S" <PatS@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:89D5BBE7-3063-4F9F-AC94-3F01E6357C68@xxxxxx [snip]
