Limiting the number of messages in a newsgroup

Can I limit the messages downloaded and retained based on a total number
by newsgroup or by age (like delete all messages over 4 weeks old)?

Can I block or delete messages by rule using the sender's domain like
"anyname.gmail.com"? ( like *gemail.com) without listing each individual
name?

Yes and yes.

You can have WLM automatically delete old posts after a certain time...
Tools - Options - Advanced - Maintenance
[x] Purge newsgroup messages in the background
[x] Delete news messages xx days after being downloaded


Create a rule
Tools - Message rules - Mail
New
1. [x] Where the From line contains people

2. [x] Delete it
[x] Mark it as read

3. click on "contains people"
in the box, type "gmail.com" (don't use a wildcard)
click on Add
ok
4. enter a name for this rule
ok
ok

But note: that is days after being DOWNLOADED, not after the messages were
posted. In other words, even if you set that to 10 days, you might download
6-month-old posts today from a newsgroup that is not very active or that is
on a server that retains old messages. Those already-old messages won't be
deleted from your message store until 10 days from now. Of course, after
that 10 days, you will be retaining only the latest 10 day's downloads.
