Hotmail: forwarding to a "custom domain"

Apologises if there is a Hotmail group, I was not able to find it on
Google Groups.

What exactly does it mean by "custom domains" when I select an e-mail
address to forward my Hotmail messages to? I've tried my personal one
(ie. the one with my own domain name) and my Gmail one but neither
seem to work.

Can someone please help?

Re: Hotmail: forwarding to a "custom domain"

With a free Hotmail account, you can only forward to another Hotmail-type
address. These include hotmail.com and other national variants like
hotmail.ca, live.com and national variants, msn.com, Office Live accounts
and Custom Domain accounts, which are now confusingly called Admin Center
accounts. If you have your own domain, you can arrange for Hotmail to manage
(for free) up to 500 email accounts using that domain name. See
http://domains.live.com .

There is no dedicated MS Hotmail newsgroup, but Hotmail questions are
normally discussed in microsoft.public.msn.discussion.

Re: Hotmail: forwarding to a "custom domain"

Interesting! I currently have my domain email managed through
Google Apps, but I'm wondering if there would be any advantage
to switching to Microsoft's Admin Center?

Re: Hotmail: forwarding to a "custom domain"

The way Hotmail has been behaving recently, I'd hesitate to recommend it.
Wait a few weeks, then give it a go!

Re: Hotmail: forwarding to a "custom domain"

OK, thanks. These intermittent Hotmail server problems are not
a good omen.
