Re: Spell Check English

Gary

I respect you for the assistance you give to people in these groups, but
your remarks on this occasion are bloody stupid - to use an Australianism.

What many, including myself, cannot understand is why, for years, in
Outlook Express and the Office suites it has always been possible to have
your local "brand" of English as the dictionary, but not in Windows Mail or
Windows Live Mail. Yes, there is a hack available in Live Mail, but only a
tiny percentage of users would be aware. I'm certainly unaware of the way to
use Office you mention.

Our point of view is not provincialism as you say, but really a statement of
fact.

Re: Spell Check English

Bill, all the regulars (in W.L.M.D, at least) make stupid remarks on
occasion, but they are not usually malicious. WLMail is a brand new app,
released just four months ago. For the most part, it works well, but there
are rough edges that need smoothing off - and we fully expect that many of
them will be in the first update. That the Language boys - and Accessibility
and HTML and probably others - weren't quite ready to go Gold when the main
team was is an MS problem that we users have to live with. In the meantime,
take advantage of the workarounds that users have unearthed to make using
these apps even more pleasurable. I can't speak for WM (I'm still waiting
for Vista to settle down), but there are solutions available for most users
looking for effective spell checking in WLMail.

It's not really relevant, but I can't resist quoting "Never ascribe to
malice that which can reasonably be explained by incompetence."

Re: Spell Check English

I doubt that any of us could tell you why the dictionaries are so few. We
don't work for MS.
I personally don't expect to see any further updates to Windows Mail, since
WLM is it's heir apparent.

Re: Spell Check English

Bill, I am sorry you took offense to my remarks, but I stand by
the gist of it.

We responders are not here to make apologies for apparent omissions
by Microsoft. We offer workarounds where available. It is a waste of
time to lament about what might have been. Microsoft is under no
obligation to make Office dictionaries as easily available for use in
Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail as it was with OE. Sometimes
a business makes a strategic retrenchment (which sounds better than
saying 'stupid omission'). ;-)

Re: Spell Check English

Heh, I have English, French and German working properly, but Spanish won't
reliably spell check E-Mails. Spanish is the one that I wish would work, of
course.

Re: Spell Check English

WLM, didn't see the cross post. Right now, I'm typing with Spanish (Spain,
International Sort) enabled for spell check as I type and nothing is
underlined. If I switch the input language to either English, French or
German the results are as expected. Spanish works "sometimes" but there is
no way to predict whether it will or not.

Saludos cordiales,

Earle
