| | New Problem - "From" Address format in "Microsoft Communities" I've tried to use the "Microsoft Communities" support to respond to newsgroup messages, but it's been complaining about: --------- Unable to send or receive messages for the Microsoft Communities account. Windows Live Mail could not post your message. Subject 'Re: ...' Server Error: 441 Server Response: 441 (603) Article Rejected -- Missing 'From:' field Server: 'msnews.microsoft.com' Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCCA9 Protocol: NNTP Port: 119 Secure(SSL): No -------- It is doing this for two messages I sent a couple of days ago. For new messages, they go through, but with a from address saying "From: <john.saunders at trizetto.com>". A message I posted through the "normal" newsgroup says "From: "John Saunders [MVP]" <john.saunders at trizetto.com>". The messages in question are in microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.aspnet.webservices: Message-ID: <unnrqQnjIHA.2268@xxxxxx> and Message-ID: <OZphx1QkIHA.5820@xxxxxx>. -- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Saunders | MVP - Windows Server System - Connected System Developer |

| | Re: New Problem - "From" Address format in "Microsoft Communities" I've no idea, John - but could it be that whatever is in the From field (ie. the email address field on the General tab of the account properties) has to be properly formed? Ie. something like at least <string@xxxxxx>, with no spaces. The Communities server, which acts as a proxy, may not be as forgiving as the NNTP server. A quick RFC check gave: RFC850 2.1.3 From The From line contains the electronic mailing address of the person who sent the message, in the ARPA internet syntax. It may optionally also contain the full name of the person, in parentheses, after the electronic address... RFC2822 3.4.1. | | Re: New Problem - "From" Address format in "Microsoft Communities" I have been posting to Microsoft Communities aka msnews.microsoft.com using "0123456@xxxxxx", as you can see. Under Windows Live Mail, this goes in Tools, Accounts, Properties, E-mail address. Although this is not a valid address, apparently it uses a valid address format. | | Re: New Problem - "From" Address format in "Microsoft Communities" Hi, John. Does your address really say " at "? Instead of "@"? I notice that your post shows that form of address (see Snip attached). Your post yesterday (3/27/08) also shows that same " at " format. These two posts are the only ones that I can recall that did NOT include "@" in the address. RC -- R. C. Indeed, I can't send it (one or more recipients do not have an email address). Now, trying again, I've added X0@xxxxxx as an address.
