WLM Attachment Slowdown

I'm still getting used to WLM mail with Vista after years of Outlook Express
(and XP). One thing that's driving me crazy is how long WLM emails take to
send when there are a few attachments. For years I have been able to attach
as many as 6 small JPEGS in Outlook Express, and the email goes through the
send process in a few seconds. The same exact email with the same
attachments takes more than a couple of minutes to go through the send
process with WLM.

Why does it take so long? Is this a "known issue", and is there a fix?

that WLM makes the attachment files the same size as OE makes
them. If it makes them bigger, it will take longer to send the

(1) Make sure your AV is not scanning outgoing mail - or incoming either,
for that matter. It's not necessary.
(2) In Tools > Accounts, make sure you have no unwanted directory services
(like WhoWhere) checking email addresses.
