| Guest | "Unknown Addresses" when importing email from Outlook to WLM I have a very strange problem when importing messages from Outlook 2007 to Window Live Mail. WLM detects the Outlook mailboxes fine (I assume using MAPI) and transfers all the messages just fine. However it doesn't seem to get the email addresses. Note this is NOT just in the contacts folder, but most of the messages too. For example, if in Outlook a message shows it is from: John Doe (john@xxxxxx) In WLM it shows up as: John Doe (Unknown Address) It completely lost everything inside the parentheses. If I try to reply to that message in WLM it thinks it's sending it to John Doe (John Doe) and won't work. Likewise all the contacts that are imported show up this way. (Obviously this isn't a problem in Outlook, which works fine). The ones that work ok in WLM are ones that don't appear to have names associated with them in Outlook. For example, if Outlook displays the sender as foo@xxxxxx it'll show up correctly in WLM. System details are: Vista Home Premium, WLM 2008 (build 12.0.1606), Outlook 2007. Any ideas? |

If it's XP, and possibly if it's earlier, there's an indirect method that's likely to work. | ||||||||||||

You haven't given enough information. Parenthesised data in an E-mail name are comments which would not be interpreted as the E-mail address even if it was that poster's real E-mail address. Use Properties to get all the details for that contact. I suspect you will find that there is no E-mail address, just an E-mail name (with a comment that looks as if it was also an E-mail address) and that would be why you are seeing that message. I don't know why WLMail would be dropping a comment from an E-mail name. That would seem like a bug to me. HTH Robert Aldwinckle ---

| Guest | RE: "Unknown Addresses" when importing email from Outlook to WLM This is a bug that has existed since way back in the early beta versions of WLM. I had exactly the same problem when transferring messages from Outlook 2002 to WLM. On Windows XP, I have managed to successfully transfer messages from Outlook to WLM - complete with correct email addresses - by using Outlook Express as an intermediate step. That is: 1. Open Outlook Express 2. On menu File, Import, Messages... select Microsoft Outlook then Next 3. Select the Outlook folder(s) you want to import into Outlook Express (I imported each folder individually, though that may not be necessary) 4. Once you have the message in Outlook Express, open WLM. 5. On menu File, Import, Messages... select Microsoft Outlook Express 6 6. Import the folders you want from Outlook Express into WLM. This process worked for me. If it won't work on Vista, then perhaps you could copy the Outlook pst file onto a computer with XP and Outlook Express, then follow the steps above? "Chalker" wrote:
