Using Multiple Hotmail Accounts REPLY PROBLEM

I have more than one email account in my live mail desktop (hotmail
accounts). When I receive an email from someone (on ANY of the accounts)
and hit 'Reply', EVERY time on EVERY message, it defaults to sending from
one account, regardless of what account I've got selected to view and
compose emails. When I compose a NEW email, it works fine (defaults to the
account I have selected on screen).

I've ensured my live mail desktop is up to date.

Any suggestions? It's driving me nuts!

Thanks,
James

Re: Using Multiple Hotmail Accounts REPLY PROBLEM

As I understand it, 'Reply' will choose the account that the message
was received in.

Re: Using Multiple Hotmail Accounts REPLY PROBLEM

I can't reproduce this. Where are you viewing the message you're replying
to - Quick views , an account folder or a Storage folder? If it's a Storage
folder, then that's the way it works with messages that have no flag
indicating which account they were received on (like imported ones, or
sometimes ones that have been moved from folder to folder).
Do you have the Reading pane visible?

Re: Using Multiple Hotmail Accounts REPLY PROBLEM

That reminded me. With Windows Mail we have seen similar issues
with POP accounts. It turned out that an antivirus or antispam
program was stripping the tag that identifies which account
received that message.

Re: Using Multiple Hotmail Accounts REPLY PROBLEM

OK - I wasn't aware of that. Now it's time for the OP to enlighten us about
his setup - OS, AV, and in particular, whether his AV or anti-spyware is
scanning mail. Also, whether he's signed in with a Live ID or not, and
whether this Live ID corresponds to the account always chosen to send from.

Re: Using Multiple Hotmail Accounts REPLY PROBLEM

nope, that is what should happen and what happens in outlook express or
outlook but when you hit reply in live desktop, it uses only one account, no
matter which one it was received in.

Re: Using Multiple Hotmail Accounts REPLY PROBLEM

on the left pane is the hotmail accounts, the right top is the email headers
and right bottom is the email text and/or pictures... this happens also if
I double click on the message to open it and hit reply...

Re: Using Multiple Hotmail Accounts REPLY PROBLEM

this is with hotmail accounts - since the original post, I've added my POP
accounts and they work fine - the hotmail accounts, still not so much

Re: Using Multiple Hotmail Accounts REPLY PROBLEM

win XP MCE SP2
AV - Shaw Secure (FSecure) - does both virus and spyware scans on incoming
and outgoing emails - I can't see that being a prob when POP accounts work
fine???
signed in with any of the IDs still happens - when hit reply it's always the
same account it defaults to, no matter which account I sign in with (ie it
doesn't correspond to the account that is logged in). I've also got the
multiple accounts setup but it happened before I did that (came across it
while trying to find a fix to this problem).

Re: Using Multiple Hotmail Accounts REPLY PROBLEM

I have one Hotmail account, one MSN account, and one Live.com
account, as well as several POP and IMAP accounts, and they all
behave as expected when doing a reply.

Are you in Quick views, or in a specific Hotmail account folder when
you click 'Reply'? Which antivirus and/or antispam programs do you use?
Do you use Message Rules to divert incoming mail to other folders?
Is that one account it always replies from the Default account?
What happens when you change the default account assignment?
