Cannot send outgoing mail

Here's the error message I get:

A TCP/IP error occurred while trying to connect to the server.

Subject 'Systems Analyst position'
Server: 'outgoing.verizon.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC15
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No

What does that error message mean?

Re: Cannot send outgoing mail

If your antivirus is configured to scan outgoing email, turn
that off.

Re: Cannot send outgoing mail

That worked. I disabled my VirusScan and outgoing mail starting going out.
Unfortunately, I have no way to control the company VirusScan settings, but I
can disable it and use other virus scanning products that I have control over.

Thanks. Good work!

Re: Cannot send outgoing mail

Do you get an error message? If so, copy it and paste into a reply
here.

Which antivirus do you have?

Re: Cannot send outgoing mail

I have the opposite problem - cannot receive emails from a German ISP.

I send emails to a FREENET.DE accountholder and he receives them; however,
when he replies, Hotmail rejects the replies.

I have checked the obvious answers eg on my blocked senders list (he is not)
etc. I posted the problem to MSN but they did not come back with a
solution.

Can anyone suggest what is wrong?

Barry, please start your own thread for this entirely different
problem - just look at the Subject line.

Re: Cannot send outgoing mail

With some anti-virus (and anti-spam) programs, simply disabling the
e-mail scanning function doesn't really disable it. It simply tells the
program not to flag any messages. It still processes all the messages
and may still cause send/receive problems. What you may need to do is
uninstall the anti-virus program, then reinstall it using a custom
install option and unselect the e-mail scanning component for
installation.
