| | Automatically Check for new Newsgroup Posts Hi guys I'm subscribed to various newsgroups in Windows Live Mail. I want to be able to automatically refresh these groups when my system checks for mail etc. The problem is the groups do not get new messages unless click on each one and it then downloads the messages. I have checked the setting "Include this account when checking for new messages". I also have each groups synchronization settings set to headers only. Can anybody please help? Regards David |

Not automatically. The simplest designed mechanism is the Synchronize All command, which you can have a toolbar button for or just learn to press Ctrl-Shift-M Quote: > > I have checked the setting "Include this account when checking for new > messages". I have never tried that option. I'd be surprised though if it would get new headers. The most that I would expect it to do would be to update the counts. You could try checking with the troubleshooting log what it actually does but the only way to be really certain about what it does would be to use a TCP packet tracer, such as netcap. E.g. an NNTP LIST command is what might be issued to get the counts updated during those events but the troubleshooting log never records even that that command is issued when it does get issued. Quote: > > I also have each groups synchronization settings set to headers only. Try periodically pressing Ctrl-Shift-M or clicking Sychronize All to download only headers in all your newsgroups in all your accounts then. I wrote on Connect to inform of that I consider as a bug, since Outllok Express and Windows Mail carry out this function. On the other hand, it's the only significant defect I have noticed on this soft. I hope the next build would be conseqently improved. -- Regards Aski MVP Windows Desktop Experience France Please excuse my poor english |

| | Re: Automatically Check for new Newsgroup Posts I don't see why this would be a problem. You have to click on each newsgroup anyway before you can read the posts. When I click on a newsgroup, it downloads the new headers faster than I can read them, so where is the beef? All my newsgroups are set for "Don't synchronize" which is the default. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (WLMail) "aski" <aski@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:C8F45336-12F0-4D7D-BCD6-66D6A87EC593@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi Robert, > > "Robert Aldwinckle" <robald@xxxxxx> wrote... > Quote: >> "David Dasher" <daviddasher@xxxxxx> wrote...
