Get rid of icons and Display Name

Stupidly, I clicked on the area of the tool bar at the right that has a
place holder for a picture. Having an old hotmail account I signed in using
that. Much to my surprise and dismay, my display name was installed on the
tool bar and an icon for Windows Live Messenger was installed in the icon
tray at the bottom right of the Windows Live Mail window. I don't have a
Windows Live Messenger account and I have killed off the hotmail account
that I never used as well, I killed off my passport at the same time.

How do I get rid of the Display Name and the Messenger Icon? While I am at
it, I would really like to get rid of the icon for Feeds that I will never
use in this life time.

Thank you

Re: Get rid of icons and Display Name

WLM by default is tied in with Messenger. Unfortunately there's no way to
remove the messenger signed in area. That's just there. Again same for the
RSS button.

Re: Get rid of icons and Display Name

if I'm understanding your question right this should do it:

tools->options->connection-> stop signing in.

Re: Get rid of icons and Display Name

Thank you very much. That did it.......what a nuisance that "feature" is.

Re: Get rid of icons and Display Name

If you subscribed to the support team's blog, you would have read all about
signing in a week or two ago:
http://emailsupport.spaces.live.com/...708!4764.entry

We've had several cries for help here from people who seemed to have mislaid
their contacts. I find it very reassuring that, by signing in, I can
maintain a complete backup of my contacts in the cloud so that if disaster
strikes my machine, they are still safely recorded. Many people find the
ability to avoid having to send large images by email very convenient. Even
if you don't do IM and blogs, I can't agree with you that the signing-in
feature is a nuisance; you can safely pretend it doesn't exist.

Re: Get rid of icons and Display Name

The only reason I keep the sign-in feature is to have an up-to-date
backup of my contact list. That has already saved me once when my
laptop was stolen earlier this year.
