Re: how do i send an e-mail to a group in windows live mail (installed here at pc)

Just start typing the name of the group into the "To:" field of a compose
window. If you want to exclude some members of the group, a click on the +
sign next to the group name will reveal all the members of that group, so
you can delete some of them.

You should be aware that many mail servers (like Hotmail) restrict the
number of recipients you can send to at once, or in a specific period. 160
would not be allowed by Hotmail.

Just send to the group name.
If you don't want the recipients to see each other's email address, put the
group name in the BCC: field, instead of in the To: field.

However, your email server may balk at sending to that many at once.

Export your contacts to a .csv file. Open that file in Excel.
Then you can edit it in Excel. There is no way to export just one group.

whatever strategy you use to secure your address book as a whole will apply
to your groups as well

so you should not need to specifically secure groups if you secure your
address book. Most people do that by backing up their critical data.
