attachments hanging WLMD

I just started testing Windows Live Mail Desktop and love it BUT after using
it for a couple of days I've run into a major headache and didn't see
anything specifically about the problem here although having checked the
last few hundred postings, I have noticed others also seem to have various
problems with attachments which makes me wonder if there's something wrong
or a weakness/bug with them.

My problem is simply that if I try to open an attachment, WLMD freezes and
the only way I can get it to function again is to close it via the task
manager. It restarts without problems and seems unaffected by the "freeze"
unless and until I try to open another attachment. Just to make sure it
wasn't something in the particular attached file, I tried several just to
make sure, including various types: powerpoint, jpegs, windows media with
the exact same thing happening with each. I did see one post about a
separate attachment problem with the MVP suggesting that making sure WLMD
was the default mail client might help so I did try that but it had no
effect.

Is this some sort of bug being worked on? My system--Dell--is practically
brand new and I'm experiencing no problems with any other software.

Are you sure you have the latest version? It was renamed Windows Live
Mail a few versions ago.

I was pretty sure I had the current version but went to the site, downloaded
and installed the current version just to make sure and got exactly the same
results.

What AV are you using? Is it set to scan mail? Try disabling it and see if
you still have the problem.

I use Avast and don't scan inbound mail...disabled and tried again just to
make absolutely sure it wasn't the problem.

A further note...I totally removed the program from my system, went online
and downloaded the latest version, installed it and everything now seems to
work just fine. I can only guess I must have had an earlier version and
there was some sort of conflict with something else on my system.
