Try enabling SSL for both incoming and outgoing servers and check the
port numbers to ascertain that they are correct.

Re: Problems sending email with my smtp

'10.0.116.135' is not a valid server name or routable IP address.

Are you on a LAN? Is there a server at that IP address? Or is your own
computer at that IP address? Something is fishy (unless you actually have a
LAN server at that IP address).

'192.168.102.31' is certainly a valid server name *and* routable IP address
for me.

Re: Problems sending email with my smtp

By 'routable' I meant routable on the Internet.
Most users don't have a LAN-based SMTP server, and the OP
gave no indication that he was using some special intranet setup.

Both are IP addresses, not server names. Many email program will accept
a server's IP address when they ask for server names. If I remember
correctly, about a quarter of the possible IP addresses are reserved for
use in private networks, and are unroutable from outside those private
networks.

There could well be a problem. Windows Live Mail, with the server set to
'10.0.116.135', is going to try to connect to a server at that IP address. I
can make it work on my system, using '192.168.102.31', because I do have a
mail server at that IP address. However, if there is no mail server at that
IP address, Windows Live Mail will fail to connect.

| C:\Documents and Settings\User>telnet 192.168.102.31 25
| Connecting To 192.168.102.31...
| 220-aosake.net ESMTP server ready.
| 220-No unauthorized relaying, or spam is allowed.
| 220 No legal obligation of acceptance by aosake.net exists.
| quit
| 221 aosake.net Service closing channel.

Try 'telnet 10.0.116.135 25' at a command prompt.
