Live Mail - Suggestions

1. Keyboard Status indicators in compose window status bar (INS/OVR, CAPS
LOCK etc)

2. Put an "Add" option in context menu for misspelt words

3. If Compose window is created from within LiveMail main form, make it a
child form of the main form (ie an MDI window).

Under which version of Windows? Vista already offers those separately and
puts them
in the bottom toolbar.

XP/Home+SP3.

Doesn't sound like a good enough reason to switch to Vista.

How does Office 2007 handle the issue, ie does it rely on Vista under Vista
and roll its own under XP - if so then I suggest Live should do the same.

thanks

Re: Live Mail - Suggestions

XP Home
I get a separate Caps Lock message.
Nothing for INS/OVR.

Re: Live Mail - Suggestions

I don't know where the Caps Lock indicator originated.
I also get it when I hit Caps Lock when viewing the desktop.

It's nothing to do with WLM, nor with the OS. It's provided by the keyboard
driver for cordless keyboards, which don't have enough battery power to
support in-built LEDs.

Are you sure this is a feature in Vista or third party software? I'm
running Vista Business and can't find anything about it.

There's a possibility that it HP has added it to computers they make,
rather than finding it as a part of Vista. You may want to search
your help file for Num Lock Off, Caps Lock Off, and Scroll Lock Off,
to see if it helps you find anything on them. I didn't find anything useful
on them in my help file.

My conclusions are

a) applications should have the means of displaying keyboard status
indicators (KSI's).

b)The display of KSI's is not implemented as a global feature by
vanilla Vista. If it were then it would be "meaningless" if the
taskbar was hidden or the "always on top" flag is not set.

c) I'm going investigate feasibility of writing an extension or
whatever we call them here, don't hold your breath tho'. I know how
to do it in C or C++ at the primitive level, I could probably do it in
C. But I'm not sure I'll be able to hook the keyboard messages in a
Live extension - I dont even know what language options are
available, if its VB then I wont be doing it.

That being said something as fundamental as displaying KSI's in
compose windows ought to done within the product, not via an
extension.
