| | ICW always starts up when I start Windows Live Mail!!! Every time I start Windows Live Mail (from the start menu, desktop icon, or by clicking on c:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe) I get an Internet Connection Wizard attempting to set up a mail account. I use hotmail/HTTP; one interesting thing is that the ICW does NOT give HTTP as an option, only IMAP and POP3. If I quit out of the ICW, Live Mail works fine and I can access my hotmail account with no problem. How do I get the ICW to not appear every time I wanna read email? 1. This does NOT happen when I access my hotmail account using Windows Live Mail on other computers. 2. This DOES happen when I access it as a different user on my computer. 3. I have deleted ALL mail accounts in Live Mail, then recreated the hotmail/HTTP account; no change. 4. I have uninstalled ALL live apps (using the Windows Uninstaller Tool); deleted the Windows Live directory in Program Files; and reinstalled Windows Live 2008; the problem persists. 5. According to add/remove Windows Components, I do NOT have outlook express installed. 6. IE7 works JUST FINE on my computer and all other apps that access the internet have no problem. |

Don't suppose I can convince you that abandoning that profile is a good idea? :-) is this XP or vista? | | Re: ICW always starts up when I start Windows Live Mail!!! It says "Internet Connection Wizard" at the top, but it is soliciting info on my email server/account. On successive screens it asks for my 'display name', my 'email address', and the next page wants SMTP server info (is it IMAP or POP3, etc). Interestingly it does NOT provide HTTP as an alternative; that's what I use since I have only a hotmail account... |

| | Re: ICW always starts up when I start Windows Live Mail!!! Ok sbus, I think I see what is happening. When you attempt to open Windows Live Mail through a shortcut, what happens is that the Outlook Express Internet Connection Wizard opens. Now, when one opens Outlook Express for the first time, a dialog box opens called 'Internet Connection Wizard', which walks you through setting up your first account. The first box has a 'Display Name' field to fill, the second box has an 'E-mail Address' field, and the third box has fields to enter the incoming and outgoing mail servers (see screenshots at: http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/4186/oeicwoo6.png - is this what you are seeing?). As for getting the ICW to not appear, first thing I suggest is to do a 'repair' install of Windows Live Mail (...Add or Remove Programs->[select] Windows Live Mail->Repair [button]). If that does not work, try a standard uninstall/reinstall through Add or Remove Programs (this will not affect your messages or settings). Now, Outlook Express is not directly listed in 'Add or Remove Programs', but is found listed in a subsection of it called 'Add/Remove Windows Components', so you need to select that option (button on left pane) and use the wizard that appears to find Outlook Express listed. If Outlook Express is checked, then un-check it... XP will then perform a basic uninstall of Outlook Express, and with that, maybe the intrusive ICW will go away. Let us know how it goes. -- Cheers, Peter (Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606) "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare --------------- "sbus" <sbus@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:06F7A8DB-D063-46ED-BC7D-41F5EC0C6324@xxxxxx Quote: > It says "Internet Connection Wizard" at the top, but it is soliciting info on > my email server/account. | | Re: ICW always starts up when I start Windows Live Mail!!! Woops, I just read your first post, which indicated that you tried an uninstall/reinstall of WLMail, and that Outlook Express is un-checked in the Add/Remove Windows Components wizard. Actually, you might try *checking* it there to install Outlook Express, and that may help. By the way, quoting previous posts in a thread when replying to a post, helps the flow of information. Also, when emphasizing a word, apparently it is considered better to use the * symbol either side of the word rather than capitalizing it, which is considered shouting. ;-) -- Cheers, Peter (Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606) "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare --------------- "Peter.R" <Peter.R@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:0E56D447-24B6-4DEB-86F4-22FB06B73E44@xxxxxx Quote: > Ok sbus, I think I see what is happening. > > When you attempt to open Windows Live Mail through a shortcut, what happens is that the Outlook Express Internet Connection Wizard opens.
