If that's not the problem, I'm out of ideas. |

You've obviously tried a reinstall. When you say it crashes your computer what actually happens - ie does it wedge/freeze so that you have to use hardware reset, does XP terminate abrubtly or what. Can you clear the event logs via Start->Administration Tools->Event Viewer before you run WLM, then take a look at them immediately after you've run WLM and gotten your system back up. You might want to set the filters to not show informational events, success audits and warnings. And let us know what happened |

| | Re: Windows live mail crashes That's sounds like a serious crash Jake. I suggest you run Chkdsk on all your hard drive volumes, and schedule a disk check on your system drive at the next reboot to check for and fix file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors (My Computer->right-click a drive volume->Properties->Tools [tab]->Error-checking [section]->Check Now->check both boxes->Start Now->(for system drive: Click 'Yes' to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check). For a look at the chkdsk log, open the Event Viewer: Start->Run->[type] "eventvwr"->OK->Application->[Type] Information->[Source] Winlogon->[Event] 1001 [Description: This includes file system type; drive letter or GUID, and volume name or serial number to help determine what volume Chkdsk ran against. Also included is whether Chkdsk ran because a user scheduled it or because the dirty bit was set.] [When Autochk runs against a volume at boot time it records its output to a file called Bootex.log in the root of the volume being checked. The Winlogon service then moves the contents of each Bootex.log file to the Application Event log.] [This file states whether Chkdsk encountered any errors and, if so, whether they were fixed.] Another thing to consider is your video display driver. Download the latest driver for your video card, uninstall your old one, and install the new one. Also, you said you have tried uninstalling and reinstalling WLMail, but you should try a *complete* uninstall/reinstall as described below: Complete uninstall: 1. After backing up your messages & accounts through the export options, uninstall Windows Live Mail through Control Panel. 2. Now use Regedit (or your favourite registry editor) to delete the registry Keys (if they exist)* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail desktop HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail desktop 3. Now navigate to your WLMail Message Store folder** and rename it (so you can keep it as a backup - messages can be dragged from the message store to your WLMail interface as a method of importing them, or you can import messages directly from your old Messages Store through File->Import->Messages...->Windows Live Mail->Browse... [button] to your old Windows Live Mail Message Store folder. Also, if any extra spellchecking languages have been installed, or you want to re-use your custom dictionary, then the contents of the "Proof" folder (within the default location Storage Folder) should be backed up so you can restore it after the reinstall). 4. Go to the 'Windows Live Mail' 'Program Files' folder (C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail) and delete it. 5. Run Windows Live Beta Remover*** if necessary. 6. Reboot your computer. 7. Now install WLMail and import your accounts and messages****. It may be best to disable any antivirus program you are running while installing WLM and running it for the first time. *Note that because the registry key is deleted, messages, accounts, and message rules will be imported again from Outlook Express/Windows Mail, so if you do not want this to happen, first delete them from those redundant mail clients. **To find the location of your message store, go Tools->Options...->Advanced [tab]->Maintenance->Store Folder (the default location is a hidden folder). If you have moved your Storage Folder from its default location, you should also delete/rename the old Storage Folder which remains in the default location. The default location of Windows Live Mail's Message Store is: Vista: %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail (C:\Users\<Windows user account>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail) XP: %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail (C:\Documents and Settings\<windows user account>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail) ***The Windows Live Beta Remover may be helpful if you have installed Windows Live beta programs previously, as it removes all the old beta installers. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940065 Download: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...eta-remove.zip -- Cheers, Peter (Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606) "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare --------------- "Jake87" <Jake87@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:F29DCCCE-C170-4A88-A843-7D7D68B92A8E@xxxxxx Quote: >When my computer crashes my monitor goes to a black blank screen and my monitor light goes from green to yellow like when its in sleep or hibernation but its not in sleep or hibernation |
