new to WLMD - mail messages have vanished from store folders

I just got the email stating that my OE6 compatibility with hotmail will
expire in June, so I upgraded to WLMD (hate it but I'll get used it).

all my custom folders were imported and I was happy, I click send and
receive and 90% of my stored messages have gone, I am using "view-all
messages" and I have 2 emails instead of 11 in one folder, same proportion
for over 1000 stored emails in different folders.

they all still exist when I open OE6 instead, so I imported again, but to no
avail.

Each folder has a View setting.
Are you showing all messages?

I am having exactly the same problem. Many of my emails did not import,
particularly the later ones. They are OK in OE when I check.

Re: new to WLMD - mail messages have vanished from store folders

Have a look in your Store folder (Options > Advanced > Maintenance > Store
folder will tell you where it is). Find the sub-folder that should contain
11 messages. How many .eml files are in there?

If there are 11, then your database needs to catch up, which might happen
just with a restart of the program. If it does, you may find your missing
messages lurking under Storage folders. If it doesn't, try re-indexing: at
Options > Advanced > Maintenance, select Compact the database on shutdown
every n runs, and change n to 1. OK your way out and shut WLMail down. A
dialogue box should ask whether you want to recover unused disk space - wait
a few minutes, then click Yes. With a bit of luck, you'll see a compaction
progress bar. Restart WLMail and look again, also under Storage folders.

If there are only two, then the import went wrong for some reason. You can
try dragging messages from the OE message list to a folder on your desktop,
and then from there into the correct folder in the WLMail folder pane. Don't
try doing this in Explorer - you'll foul up the database.

Let us know how you get on.

hi, thanks for the reply, compacting didn't work and looking in the
"C:\Documents and Settings\High\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail" folder revealed only the 2 of 11 msgs.

however manually transferring them to the desktop and then into their
correct folders did work, they survived another compaction and send/receive
and opening/closing a few times. thanks, you solved the problem

I guess they have a lot of work to do to get WLMD up to speed if they want
us to abandon OE6

of course dumping over a thousand emails on the desktop in one go is a very
bad idea. i think i will dump them in a spare folder first.

Good idea(spare folder).

Thanks for reporting the import issue and the corrective action used to address the issue.
