| | Outlook Express vs Live Mail I saw the message whereby Outlook Express will discontinue service in a couple of months. Too bad. Now for the question.......... In Outlook Express I go to my Inbox and it automatically downloads all my new mail -- just the basic subject line, date, etc., but NOT the complete message content. Some of my messages come with major attachments and I open them only if I wish. However, I believe that Live Mail only downloads the entire contents of the messages in the Inbox. Is that true? If so, that's really lame. Am I wrong? I only want the headers showing in my Inbox, not the complete, downloaded contents. Is there a solution? Thanks. EW |

| | Re: Outlook Express vs Live Mail OE and WLM are the same in this regard. By default, both download the complete message. Both also offer message rules where you can elect not to download messages exceeding a specified size. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (WLMail) "LoneStar" <ewyatt_del_me@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:480e5186$0$47101$892e7fe2@xxxxxx Quote: >I saw the message whereby Outlook Express will discontinue service in a > couple of months. | | Re: Outlook Express vs Live Mail Thanks Gary. Not to belabor the issue, but my OE has NEVER downloaded the contents of messages. Never. And I have no rules in place -- just checked. It's only when I double click the message that the contents are downloaded for that message only. Been doing this for years. Oh well, I guess I'll have to figure something out, or use web mail. Just like in my OE, web mail (Hotmail) only shows me messages that are "ready" for me to click on and view the entire contents. Thanks. | | RE: Outlook Express vs Live Mail You CAN change the synchronization settings for each folder which your main Hotmail folder includes. In the folder list, expand Hotmail folder, then right click each sub-mail folders and choose "Synchronization Settings>Only headers". Also if you are displaying the reading pane, then Windows Live Mail may have been set to automatically download mails which are displayed in the Preview pane. To change it, go to WLM Options>Read tab and uncheck the related option. "LoneStar" wrote: Quote: > I saw the message whereby Outlook Express will discontinue service in a > couple of months. | | Re: Outlook Express vs Live Mail Easy. Ditch all free accounts and not renew the paid-for hotmail accounts and take my business elsewhere. Your question, and the way it is put, encapsulates everything that is objectionable about the philosophy behind the development and deployment of Live Mail. -- Fflei "...winston" wrote: Quote: > And your choice for those accounts exclusive of pop3 after June 30 will be ? > > -- > ...winston > ms-mvp windows live mail > > > "mae" <agrannie@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:#9u1ncOpIHA.552@xxxxxx Quote: > > Even so, thank you, as you saved me the trouble and time downloading Live mail. > > I don't like-use POP (even though I have hotmail plus and msn POP accounts) Quote: > > | > Glad you asked that as it is same for me. > > | > I only download new headers from Hotmail. > > | > That way I have choice. > > | > No filters, no rules, no spam. > > | > Served as reference for what was stored in Hotmail. > > | > Was a perfect setup. > > > |
