| | GUI colors AWFUL Hi! Why does not it obey to the windows themes? Do somebody in MS want it to be as awful as new MS Word and Vista? Is it possible to make it look as "Windows classic"? if not then Is it possible to apply some another skin, which is not so whorny? if not then Is it possible to find some another mail client which works with hotmail by that DeltaSync? Aleksey. |

If nobody will hack it to support new protocols and MS will really switch off old one then I will possibly switch to the Thunderbird. Also I think it is important to remember that this is not the first attempt of MS to kill OE. So the best tactic here is to keep using OE. :-) The main idea of the current events consists in the fact that MS already filled the PC niche. All you can do at PC you can do using the 10 years old software with almost the same success. But MS is a monster and it will die without your new money. So MS goes into visual perversions like Vista, new MS Office GUI and now - Live Mail. It goes without asking your opinion. It just force you as we can see that, for example, how difficult to buy laptop with WXP, how difficult to install WXP on SATA (no floppy at most laptops ) how difficult to return to old GUI in new Office and how it is lying us about new protocols trying to kill the OE again. But behind the MS the open source software is going ready to offer the same functionality in any wishful shape. So while MS is killing its own old products by stopping to support them it is making the new niche for OpenOffice, Knoppix, Thunderbird, etc. Also it is important to remember that the big chunk of american industry depends on this circus. Many peoples still have their 5 and 10 years old laptops still working pretty well with 3 years old software. So just imagine what will be with that industry without Vista which eats CPU to show you several layers of transparent windows, etc. Everybody should to remember that if MS will invest cash in PC security this will not help the american economy to stay afloat because security does not eat much CPU and memory. I think MS should think more about how to spend cash. But we can see that super revenues do not produce super geniuses. MS even cannot import enough of this stuff because of H1B quota. :-) Aleksey. |

| | Re: GUI colors AWFUL To me, the color scheme seems fairly Vista-like, which I think is what the developers were aiming for. The main thing I don't like is how dark the toolbar is. If you want to see a truly ugly color scheme, try Vista's Windows Mail. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (WLMail) "Aleksey Tkachenko" <no_spam@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:%23IupsfbpIHA.2188@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi! > > Why does not it obey to the windows themes? > > Do somebody in MS want it to be as awful as new MS Word and Vista? > > Is it possible to make it look as "Windows classic"? > > if not then > > Is it possible to apply some another skin, which is not so whorny? > > if not then > > Is it possible to find some another mail client which works with hotmail by that DeltaSync? > > Aleksey. > |

I thought it was the MS approach untill I have seen the new MS Office. Aleksey. | | Re: GUI colors AWFUL I have to agree. I've been designing UIs for 20+ years now and rule one is 'let the user make it look how they want to.' A big part of that rule is ensuring your apps conform to the currently configured settings for Windows' appearance. I once had a user who had diabetes and failing vision. He was running Windows with the high contrast color scheme (white on black) at 800 by 600. Some of the screens in my VB app were too large for him and some of the custom controls I used did not fully conform to windows colors, leaving him with white grids containing white text. You'd better believe I redesigned the larger screens and added code to enforce Windows system colors on every control on every window in the app. Let -- no, *help* -- the user work they way they want to. | | RE: GUI colors AWFUL I must agree. It was a rude shock to see Vista-like colours in XP, and the awful unreadable fonts. I find it much harder to read. All I managed to do was change all the folder colours to a darker colour (purple) So WLM developers - how about being able to have the Windows XP look and feel, with fonts that aren't like spider webs?????? Bah! OE, all is forgiven... |
