imap

I don't know how many people use imap through WML, but I noticed something
odd. I don't know if it was by accident or by choice.

Under OE, when you deleted a message in an imap folder, the message was
marked as deleted, but it didn't really go away until it was purged. The
purge could occur for a couple of reasons such as pushing the purge button
or leaving the folder. In WML, you delete a message and it disappears
instantly. I can't believe this is the intended behaviour since it removes
the need for the purge button.

I like having a second chance with purged messages. I'm clearly missing
something.

Re: imap

Hi, Jack.

I've never used IMAP, just POP3. But in WLM, deleted messages usually go
into Deleted Items; there is a separate Deleted Items folder for each email
account.

On the Tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance tab, there are settings for
"Cleaning up Messages", including a check box for "Purge deleted messages
when leaving IMAP folders". Is this what you are looking for? (On this
tab, I check the box for "Empty messages from the 'Deleted Items' folder on
exit".) Also, on the way to this tab, on the Advanced tab, there is a check
box for "Use the 'Deleted Items' folder for IMAP accounts". Do you have a
check in this box?

By the way, I'm using Vista Ultimate. What OS are you running? It might
not matter, but it always helps if we know what OS we are dealing with.

Re: imap

Been there. Done that. No luck.

I think this is a bug in WLM, but on a grand scale, I can live with it.

Re: imap

Hi, Jack.

Well, since I don't use IMAP and no longer use OE, I'm out of ideas.

Next time, please use Reply to Group, rather than Reply to All. That way,
your response will still come here to the newsgroup but it will not also
come to me as an email reply.

Without any proof it could be just as likely evidence of a bug in OE.
E.g. the server may have been perfectly happy to allow the delete
but if OE ignored any such indication then the purge may have been
necessary.

If you still have access to the same server with both OE and WLMail
it could be informative to trace the same scenario with both and
compare their traces. I believe that IMAP.log is one of the more
comprehensive diagnostics that OE produces and assume it would
be the same for WLMail.

Re: imap

Have you mapped the Deleted items folder correctly to the one on the
server? When I delete a message from an IMAP inbox, it is moved to
the Deleted items folder just like with any other account, and there
it stays until I permanently delete it.

IMAP servers have a wide variety of configurations. You have to make
sure that the ones in WLMail match with the particular server you
are connecting to. For example, some people have had problems if
'Check for new messages in all folders' is selected; others if it
isn't. Check the server documentation or contact the server support
people before deciding that this is a bug in WLMail - which is not
the same program as Outlook Express, despite many apparent
similarities.

Re: imap

I don't think so. The Deleted folder is empty. How do I do that mapping?

Thanks

RE: imap

I had exactly the same question as yours. I did google but found out no
solution except for your post here. After some "tuning" of WLM, I figured out
a solution working for me.

Try the followings:
1, in the options of WLM, click advanced tab and uncheck the box "use the
'deleted iterms' folders for the imap account"
2, in the menu of WLM, find view - current view, select "show deleted
messages"
done,

You may also want to check the properties of imap accounts and uncheck the
box "store special folders on imap server" under imap tab. But it seems not
affecting the problem above.

Hope that also works for you.
