Vista - automatic opening

automatic opening

In OE a new message would not open until I manually opened it. I can't find
that option in WLM. I like the security of being able to delete a message
without opening it. Is this option available? Thanks for your help.

Re: automatic opening

It's been quite a while since I used OE, but I seem to recall that in that
respect the two programs work the same. To do what you want, disable
the preview pane: View, Layout...

Incidentally, Windows Live Mail automatically disables the preview pane
for messages in the Junk E-mail (spam) folder.

Mail messages are already downloaded if you can see them listed in the message list pane.
I believe that setting is strictly for newsgroup messages.

So that is why the preview pane is disabled for the junk mail in current WLM.

It depends on how much you are synchronizing. If you synchronize headers
only, when a message appears in the list pane on top, only the headers are
downloaded to your PC. So by unchecking the "Automatically download message"
box in the Read Options tab, the body/attachment/tracking graphics are not on
your system. You can simply delete this email. This is the best feature all
the other mailers are sorely missing. I am so grateful that WLM retain this
feature from OE!!!!!

Again, that only applies to newsgroup messages. For email, OE and WLM both
download the entire message.

I don't recall ever seeing that message. Either it is talking about a newsgroup
message, or else you have crafted a custom message rule that skips
downloading if the message exceeds a certain size. Note that this is not the
default behavior. Perhaps someone who uses that rule can inform us if there is
a notification when this occurs.
