How safe are my business folders on WLM if I reinstall MSN program

I need to remove and then reinstall MSN program on my laptop but am afraid
that if a MSN outlook is created it might affect my business folders (e-mail)
on WLM. Is it safe for me to do this?

Re: How safe are my business folders on WLM if I reinstall MSN program

in the future if you find yourself asking these type of questions, my best
advice to you is to burn a raw copy as backup without any compression.

ask your IT personnel if he'll be able to write you a script that would do
it once a week, have it saved to a USB flash drive, that'd work great too

Re: How safe are my business folders on WLM if I reinstall MSN pro

Thank you Hanns for taking the time to respond...however you assume I know
what I am doing...and that I have a IT person to assist. If either of those
assumptions were true, I would not have to post this query, would I? I have
however been attempting to back up my folders as would be the very first step
before attempting to install any software. Appreciatively, roclady

Re: How safe are my business folders on WLM if I reinstall MSN pro

if that's the case, then let's try it this way... is your "business" folder
saved locally on your harddrive? or is it saved in your hotmail or msn
account? from there I might be able to help you a little more...

sorry about the assumption.

Re: How safe are my business folders on WLM if I reinstall MSN pro

Thank you Hanns for offering to allay my confusion. Yes, actually through
reading another "thread" I was able to find the files on my hard drive. I
have already made copies on disks of all my WLM folders. I have not
uninstalled my partial MSN software yet (only 25 mb) in order to reinstall
the complete program. I have instructions from MSN Live Help as to the steps
to take. I was just worried about the fact that when I reinstall the MSN a
new Outlook will be created...and I didn't want that new Outlook to interfere
with my WLM folders (e-mails). MSN told me it shouldn't but I was looking
for reassurance from someone who knew the WLM system, which I don't.

Re: How safe are my business folders on WLM if I reinstall MSN pro

Hmm, back up your Windows Live Mail folders using File, Export, Messages...,
Microsoft Windows Live Mail. It will prompt you for an empty folder and the
folders you want to export. I suggest selecting all storage folders at this
point. When it is done copy the now non-empty folder to a CD or USB drive.

If there are online folders such as those for a MSN or Hotmail account you
can get it to copy those too.

Once you do this if anything happens to your WLM system you can Import the
previously Exported messages and get back to normal.

Outlook is a commercial e-mail program which is an application included with
Microsoft Office. I don't know what you mean by a new Outlook being
created.

If you uninstall and reinstall MSN it should leave your individual MSN
account information intact, but one never knows.

Re: How safe are my business folders on WLM if I reinstall MSN pro

I can't thank you enough Earle...I never knew it would be that easy to copy
my e-mail folders to a USB drive or CD. I have done so... I understand
your point about Outlook and didn't understand the information I was given by
MSN Help in the first place. But I feel reassured now that I can reinstall
MSN now without losing my WLM folders, thanks to your help. God bless you
and have a wonderful weekend! Patricia

Re: How safe are my business folders on WLM if I reinstall MSN pro

Cds are normally read only..
If restoring from the cd backup, copy to a jump drive or explorer folder(retaining the full folder content) and ensure the
read-only attribute is not set.

If you wish to back up some other items..Accounts Settings, Contacts etc..

Re: How safe are my business folders on WLM if I reinstall MSN pro

Thank you, Winston, for this important information which I will keep for
future. I have successfully completed my uninstall/reinstall for my MSN
program and have had no problems with my WLM folders. Thank goodness...but
I'd rather be safe than sorry and I appreciate everyone's thoughtful
assistance. Warmest regards, Patricia
