90% CPU Usage

Installed Windows Live Mail in preparation for the eventual demise of
Outlook Express. Allow myself some time to get used to a new client.
Install, other than taking a particularly long time, went smoothly. Mail and
most all of saved folders were imported. All the settings and accounts
transferred correctly. Problem is every time using the Windows Live Mail
client my computer grinds to a standstill. Check of task manager shows Live
mail client using 90 to 100% of cpu, 260mB of memory and fluctuating higher.
This occurs whether Live mail is checking for new messages and news items or
just open and sitting idle. Of course tried restarting the client, then
computer and uninstalling and re-installing Windows Live Mail. No
improvement yet. Even gave it some time to run and settle down. No
improvement.

Certainly must be a bug in my particular setup and installation. Can't
believe that Windows Live Mail would be this resource intensive. Suggestions
of what to look for and where would be appreciated. I scanned the last 3500
or so posts and did not come up with possible solutions.
Thanks in advance,
Oh,
Dell Dimension
Pentium 4 2.8ghz
1.5 gB memory
Windows XP SP2

Re: 90% CPU Usage

Have had the same problem intermittently. It does it for awhile, the stops & operates normally, then starts it again. The only thing I have seen that it is doing is the All News view is running up to over 100,000 or 200,000. Couldn't find any way to stop it or what is causing it. It just does it for so long, then returns to normal; then starts it again sometime later, normally during a subsequent session.

Re: 90% CPU Usage

Sure did try the uninstall and re-install route. No improvement.
Thank you,

MS Outlook Express is not going away any time soon. What is changing is that
Windows Live Mail will no longer allow access using WebDAV.

CPU peaked at 85% - 90% during program load, but settled down to ~9% during
use, 3% when minimized. Memory usage of 260 MB shouldn't be a problem on a
system with 2 GB of RAM. It doesn't seem to be an issue on my 2 GB system.

Not seeing a lot of resources consumed by WLM.

RE: 90% CPU Usage

Got the same thing. Just out of curiosity went to Tools.Synchronize and found
that it was downloading messages from all my folders. Cant stop it. Some
folders were small and some large with lots of attachments. That explains
disk thrashing.

I guess this is a one time pain. I just converted from Outlook Express to
Live Mail and my first reaction was also - Oh man - this is again one of
those products that MSFT thinks is ready for prime time but is not.

The folders are still downloading and I hope that will be it.

RE: 90% CPU Usage

Yes - that was it. The folder download finished. My CPU usage is no longer
pegged to over 90%, my disk thrashing has stopped.

Re: 90% CPU Usage

Yes this was a large part of it. Just left and waited for everything to get
caught up, all the folder contents downloaded. Now only have the extreme
processor usage and computer lag every time I start Windows Live Mail and
until it finishes checking for new mail. Takes about 2-3 minutes every time
to go through this and settle down. Much better but still is my thought that
there is a bit excessive use of the computer resources.
