Exorcising Live Mail

Hi

Live mail newbie for two days. All moved over from OE without a hitch.
However, when I show 'All news' in 'Quick views' there are some email ghosts
(can read an have attachments) left over from binaries newsgroups I looked
at and unsubscribed over six months ago. How do I removed these.

Re: Exorcising Live Mail

Hi Steve.

The Quick views will break in the current version of WLMail (12.0.1606) if any folder is deleted (in an Account or under Storage folders), if a Feed is deleted, or if one un-subscribes to a Newsgroup.

Your problem appears to be due you having unsubscribed from a newsgroup which still contained unread posts.

Repairing the Quick views should correct the problem (until they break again).

To repair the broken Quick views, delete the registry Value "SearchFolderVersion" under the registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail. This will cause WLMail to rebuild its Quick view data store when it is next started.

To prevent this problem you are experiencing, I have found that it is best to mark any messages as read before deleting them or unsubscribing from a newsgroup, since those unread ghost messages are likely to reappear next time your Quick views break.

Re: Exorcising Live Mail

Thank you. That took at least ten seconds to fix compared to my hours of
frustration. Do you know if any traces remain on the local PC and , if so,
do they clean up when compacted?

Re: Exorcising Live Mail

I suspect yes, since you were able to read the old news posts. I don't think that compacting the database will remove them.
Explore your WLMail Message Store to see if they are there. Just delete them if you do find them.

To find the location of your Message Store, go to: Tools->Options...->Advanced [tab]->Maintenance->Store Folder (the default location is a hidden folder).

Re: Exorcising Live Mail

Again, thank you. That cleaned up some groups that haven't been on my reader
for cat's ages.
