| | Store Folder Location Has anyone tried to change the store folder in WLM to a network share? Will it work in a Group Policy redirected folder such as My Documents Or does it have the same limitations as Outlook Express? - Evan |

Outlook Express. I have used the following mail clients: MS Outlook Express Windows Live Mail SeaMonkey (and its predecessors in the Netscape Communicator family) Opera Mail (component of the browser suite) Mozilla Thunderbird Assorted news clients with integral SMTP Message Submission Agents I've only used one email client which is network aware: Pegasus Mail The problem is that the client needs to know the patch to the message store. Only Pegasus Mail includes an operating file which provides it with the paths to the message store. The other clients will automatically rebuild a new, local message store if the network location is not available. Pegasus Mail will just generate an error (if it was set up with network capability; it can be set up stand alone, like the other clients). -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

However, find your message store, copy it to the new location on the network share. Find the appropriate registry entry for WLM for the store folder and change it to the mapped drive letter on your local machine(s). My message store has been in a shared folder on my Windows Home Server for over 4 months with no unrecoverable problems. I also use Hamachi VPN to access the message store from my laptop when traveling. However, as Norman has said, a new message store to the default location will be created on the local machine if the mapped drive is not on line or otherwise not reachable. But, it is easily changed back to the mapped location by editing the registry again to the mapped drive location. I also keep a duplicate, no older than a few days, copy of the message store in the default location on the local machine(s) in case things go wrong. Try it and see how it works for you. General caveats apply: Back up and be prepared for something to go wrong. Practice on a test machine first. BullDawg |

| | Re: Store Folder Location Thanks for the responses Since my users have roaming profiles and redirected folders I'd love to get the mail store within a mail folder within their My Documents I'll have to run some tests changing the store location in the HKCU key Currently my users are using OE with the store folder changed to application Data which is contained in their profile. It worked OK 8 years ago when store folders were smaller, however it's a lousy solution today resulting in long logons and corrupted dbx files - Evan "Evan" <ewgy@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:5C29F432-D968-4F59-AABE-7A0AB9BCC381@xxxxxx Quote: > > > Has anyone tried to change the store folder in WLM to > a network share? > Will it work in a Group Policy redirected folder such as My Documents > Or does it have the same limitations as Outlook Express? > - Evan > |
