Re: re-named folders by WLM

It's been 8 months since this original post, and having just install WLM, I
too am experiencing this same problem with renamed folders; however, my
problem was with folder names that exceeded 14 characters, not 10. I sent an
email to the support team regarding this very issue, and was given no
solution to this problem.

The following was the last response I received:

Hello Lois,

Thank you for writing back to Windows Live Mail Technical Support. My name
is Glenn. I gather that imported folders from Outlook Express does not appear
with the same folder name in your path where Windows Live Mail store your
messages. I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. Be
assured that I will do my best to have this addressed as soon as possible.

Lois, we appreciate the screenshots you have provided. I have carefully
reviewed the issue you are encountering and have determined that we need to
engage additional resources to find out the cause of this issue. Please be
assured that I will take the responsibility in making sure that your concern
will be given priority, and that you need not to resubmit this service
request.

Your patience and understanding is highly appreciated. We ask for your
continued support as we strive to provide you with the best e-mail experience
and the highest quality service available. We appreciate your involvement
with Windows Live.

Sincerely,
Glenn
Windows Live Mail Technical Support

I am surprised how little attention this problem has received; and have
since uninstalled WLM and will continue to use OE until it is no longer
feasible to do so. Hopefully, by then, this issue will have been resolved
and WLM will function as flawlessly as OE has for the past 15+ yrs. or so.

Re: re-named folders by WLM

I'm sorry if my date was off as to when OE came out. I forgot Win95 had a
different email client (Exchange Mail ?? or something like that).

My request for help from WLM is only a week old so I don't think sending
another request would really do any good at this point. The response I
posted here is dated 4-27-08. I just hope that I will receive another
response when a solution/fix has been found.

Re: re-named folders by WLM

Yes, I hope they fix this as it took me ages to go through all my folders
and rename them after WLM changed the names.

Re: re-named folders by WLM

Lois..
- good memory!

Windows 95(released about 12.67 years ago(Aug 24, 1995) included the following .
Internet Mail and News
Windows Exchange

Windows Exchange was later updated and renamed Windows Messaging to avoid confusion with Exchange Server

Re: re-named folders by WLM

I don't have much faith in this issue being resolved. I have had 3 different
Microsoft employees send me the same exact response to my email to WLM Tech
Support. The first person (Jo-ann) requested I send them a screenshot
showing the re-named folders so I sent a screenshot of how they appear in WLM
and how they appear in the Windows directory. After that a second Microsoft
employee (Glenn) told me that he was taking over my case and my concern would
be given priority. I need not repost another service request. Yesterday,
5-6-2008 I received another email from yet another Microsoft employee (Peter)
basically telling me the same thing, except requesting that I send another
screenshot of the WLM Storage Folder open (been there, done that).
Unfortunately, I have since uninstalled my WLM so I'm not able to send
another screenshot.

I have been unsuccessful in renaming these "re-named" folders to their
appropriate names and still be able to open the emails should I attempt to
rename in the Windows directory. All emails in the correctly named folders
no longer function, and then upon reopening WLM, I find new "renamed" folders
with all my emails showing up as "unread". These emails do function. I end
up with 2 different folders with all the same emails. I not only want my
folders to appear correctly named in WLM, I want them to appear correctly in
the Windows directory as well.

Why are you assuming that that would be possible?
None of the other implementation details of the Message Store
are usable. For example, you can't take click on a news: link
while offline and expect the cached .nws file which represents
that link's Message-ID to be opened. From the perspective
of that use case there is no difference between OE and WLMail.
Yet that use-case strikes me as being a perfectly reasonable
feature to have in either product and perhaps more doable
by the WLMail implementation. It just doesn't exist which is
why we have to regard it as an enhancement request.

Re: re-named folders by WLM

With the technology we have today, anything is possible. It works in OE, so
you bet, I'm not only going to assume, I'm going to expect it to work in WLM
as well.
