Message stays in Outbox

Whenever I send a message, it remains in the Outbox, unless I first go to
another folder and then back to Outbox. This did not happen with OE. Is it a
bug or a design feature (not too smart) ?

Tools, Options, Send, check the second box ("Send messages immediately").
