One time Live Mail works correctly, next moment it doesn't

When I send a e-mail from Live Mail, sometimes it sends just fine, other times I get a error message that indicates my e-mail provider requires authenticatin for the message. I have spoken to the technical folks at my e-mail provider and they assure me that authentication is not required, and if you have this option checked it will not work. I checked under accounts/properties and I do not have it selected. I also know this to be true becasue in WinMail, I did not have any authentication selected and it worked fine.

So this somehow had to be a erronous message. One area that is curious is that on the Servers tab, there are three options, one of which must be selected. THese options are:1) Log-on using clear text authentication, 2) Log-on using secure password authentication and 3) Log-on using authenticated POP. SInce my provider does not want any authentication the tech folks told me to deselect all three options, but you can't you must have one of the three selected. They suspect that this may be the cause of their server rejecting my e-mail.

Any help on this issue would certainly be appreciated.

Use the first option (clear text). Those first three are for receiving.
Don't confuse those with SMTP authentication, a different issue.
If you continue to have issues, copy the error message and post it
here.
By any chance, are you sending from a laptop that changes locations?

OK, that is what I thought...so I did set it to clear text but the issue still pervails. You asked if I am sending from a laptop that changes locations and the answer is a definite yes. I move around to four or five different locations and I have different accounts at each. Do you think this has some bearing on the problem?

If you are not using authentication for sending, then your SMTP message
submission server is verifying that you are an authorized user by checking
your IP address. When you connect on your ISP's IP network that works fine.
However, when you connect from any other IP network than your ISP's, the
message submission server will refuse to send your email. That is a weakness
on the part of your ISP.

Other ISPs get around IP address authentication by requiring that the
sending client use authentication. Since your ISP has stated that will not
work, you will net to find an alternative solution. One free option is to
use Gmail. You can configure a Gmail account for POP3/SMTP or IMAP/SMTP
access. You can verify your current sender email address with Gmail, and
they will allow you to send through their server with your ISP email
address. And Gmail does permit SMTP AUTH access from any IP address on the
Internet.

Re: One time Live Mail works correctly, next moment it doesn't

Yes, sending from different locations is definitely a problem.
Depending on whose Internet connection service you are using
at that moment, it will probably block SMTP service on port 25.
For more on this issue, see
http://www.postcastserver.com/help/P..._Blocking.aspx

The basic rule is that you must use the SMTP server that belongs
to the current connection provider. There are four workarounds:

1. Use webmail for sending if your mail provider offers access to mail via the web.
2. Ask your mail provider if they have a port other than '25' for SMTP.
3. Use the SMTP server belonging to your current connection (not practical
if you move around a lot).
4. Get a free Gmail account, configure it for POP access, and
use it for your sending chores. Gmail uses port 465 for SMTP, which is not blocked
like port 25 is.
