| Guest | Can I lose all all those inboxes? Just upped to Windows Live Mail from longtime Outlook Express use. I use 5 mail addresses, so have 5 accounts showing in the left hand pane before I get to even see my storage folders. (yes, I moved them up and they slid down next time opened - is that a bug?) Then I have emails coming in to each account, sent emails from each account, and I can't find anything quickly, and I'm getting confused where things end up. I've set up message rules to copy all incoming mail to the Storage Folders inbox so I have a 'One Stop Shop' for emails. But I still have to manually drag or copy sent mail to Sent Items, and delete all the originals from the individual accounts. What a pain! What I would like is basically what I had in Outlook Express - 1 set of inbox, Outbox, and Sent messages. (plus a few of my own for specific items) Nice and simple where I know where everything is and do things once! I'd like to delete all the separate account stuff and just have messages go in to the storage folders - is that possible? It looks to me that doing that will simply delete the accounts altogether - and that's not what I want. I know Outlook Express is old and boring to look at, while Windows Live Mail is very attractive - but unless someone can help me with an answer to these issues, think I'll migrate back again. Thanks. |

| Guest | Re: Can I lose all all those inboxes? I have already tested deleting an account's folder set in the left pane, and as expected, it deletes the email account from Tools>Accounts, the behavior I would not like to see. Adding the email account recreates its folder tree. We're stuck with the same subset of folders for every email account WLM imports or you create. | Guest | Re: Can I lose all all those inboxes? Thanks Ryder - that's what I suspected. I guess a year from now - with luck and a few updates noting user preference - this might start working how we would like? I've tried Outlook several times, and given up due to too many complexities. All I ever need is just a simple 'go get it and show me' program. Waited a long time hoping for a better looking OE update - but this only looks good. To add insult to injury - clicking the email link MS sent me to advise of your response just showed a blank web page.......hmmmm. a3dvm "Ryder" wrote: Quote: > I have already tested deleting an account's folder set in the left pane, and > as expected, it deletes the email account from Tools>Accounts, the behavior > I would not like to see. | Guest | Re: Can I lose all all those inboxes? Thanks for the reply Ron, but had tried that. With all the QuickView items (except the first mandatory one) unchecked - you still get to see all the accounts you have, and they are all actively receiving / sending / requiring deletion of mail. This just makes 5 times the work for my 5 accounts. And as I can't seem to turn off auto checking (subject of another post) I'm downloading spam that MailWasher should be trapping first. a3dvm. | Guest | Re: Can I lose all all those inboxes? During the beta testing phase, we repeatedly asked the developers to give us an alternate OE-like combined folders view, but the only response was to use QuickView folders. I have 10 POP accounts, and for neatness and manageability I keep them collapsed to one line each. I do all my reading and deleting from the QuickView folders, which I have organized as follows: Unread e-mail, All inbox, All sent items, All junk e-mail. I seldom have to go into the individual account folders anymore. About once a week I go to the individual Deleted Items folders and empty them. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (WLMail) "a3dvm" <a3dvm@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:8735F135-BE71-4051-8AC4-4EC3F418ABE4@xxxxxx Quote: > Thanks for the reply Ron, but had tried that. > With all the QuickView items (except the first mandatory one) unchecked - > you still get to see all the accounts you have, and they are all actively > receiving / sending / requiring deletion of mail. | Guest | Re: Can I lose all all those inboxes? Thanks Gary, I'll give that a try. Though I have to confess a short while ago I openend OE again, and found it so easy to use with just one inbox and one sent mail folder - and no extraneous clutter of uneccesary accounts. I'll try your method, but I'm leaning toward going back to OE, as the only benefit of the aesthetically pleasing gui, doesn't outweigh the downsides for me. At least WLM it's not as bad as AOL! a3dvm "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: Quote: > During the beta testing phase, we repeatedly asked the developers > to give us an alternate OE-like combined folders view, but the > only response was to use QuickView folders. > > I have 10 POP accounts, and for neatness and manageability > I keep them collapsed to one line each. | Guest | Re: Can I lose all all those inboxes? If you don't need to access a Hotmail account, there is no compelling need to switch from OE to WLM.
