WINDOWS LIVE MAIL PROGRAM BUG

Hi,

I have found a bug or glitch in the windows live mail system. Happened to
me before and I fixed it but after it has happened to me again I am still
surprised that Microsoft hasn’t fixed it. The problem is the windows live
mail server itself. Let me elaborate more on the matter; lets say we go
and make a new email account in hotmail, doesn’t matter if we take the
hotmail.com or live.com ending, both are the same, we create the account
without a problem and install windows live mail. We add the new email
account into windows live mail and it will work fine without a problem. Now
lets say you forget your password to that account for any reason; you go to
another country and need to access your email using a public computer or
whatever. Now, since we are taking into account that you have forgotten
your password so you use the "password recovery feature" and create a new
password, since you pretty much have to because it wont email you your old
password or it does and I'm blind. So you change your password for whatever
reason you see fit, and you access your email on the internet without a
problem with the new password. The "real" problem happens when you try to
access that same email account with your new password, since you have to
update your email information in the windows live mail program, it just wont
let access it. To me it seems that the windows live mail program has its
own server where it stores this information regarding your email account and
has nothing to do with the other servers that your information is stored.
To me it would seem logical to have them both updated with relevant
information regarding user accounts. Because as of right now I have this
problem. I can access my email on the website without a problem, but
windows live mail program wont connect and keeps bouncing back a error
stating that the account name or password is wrong. I tried basically the
basic stuff, uninstall windows live mail desktop and then reinstall, doesn’t
work, same thing, tried installing windows live mail desktop on a new
computer and inputting the info there, same thing, wont connect. There
might be a fix to this, something that must be reset or changed by the user
in the options of windows live desktop, I searched cant find it, so I hope
anyone can help me and provide me with a fix or a techie can
help.......please?

There are setting to change address & password, have you tried: In the left
hand column where all you email accounts are there should be your hotmail
account, right click on it & select properties, the look under the server
tab, that should show the email & password, I'm sure you can change the
password there.

HTH,
Edna.

Re: WINDOWS LIVE MAIL PROGRAM BUG

To prevent your concerns..
1. Enable an alternate email address to retrieve a forgotten password and a secret question. Imo, this should be a mandatory option
within 30 days of creating the account.(ie. an existing email, another hotmail or other free web account).
2. If the password is forgotten, use the password reset feature.(see item 1 its required)
<qp>
Reset your password
You can't recover a forgotten password. To use your Windows Live Hotmail account after forgetting your Windows Live ID (The user
name and password that you use to sign in to any Windows Live, MSN, or Office Live sites and services. If you have a Passport
Network, Hotmail, or Messenger account, you can use it as your Windows Live ID.) password, you must reset the password.
On the Windows Live Hotmail website, click Forgot your password?
Type your e-mail address and the characters from the picture, and then click Continue.
Select one of the following methods: Request password reset instructions in an e-mail message
Click Send password reset instructions to me in e-mail.
Click Continue.
Click OK.
Open your alternate e-mail account, and then follow the instructions in the e-mail message from Windows Live ID.
Answer your question to verify your identity
Click Use my location information and secret answer to verify my identity.
Select your country or region, provide the answer to your secret question, and then click Continue.
Enter and confirm your new password, and then click Continue.
To set up an alternate e-mail address, enter the e-mail address two times, and then click Continue. If you don't want to set up an
alternate e-mail address, click Skip.
Click Done.
</qp>
- Note: Ensure you choose the same country or region used in the original account creation
3. Access the account in the Web interface to ensure the account change has been updated.
4. Once item(3) can be accomplished, change the password in WLM. If not possible, remove the account, and create new.
