| | Will there be password protection on Windows Live Mail in the future? Hello, I'm currently using Outlook Express and planned to move to WLM under XP. However, when I discovered that anyone could launch WLM on my computer and skip password entry (by clicking Cancel at the prompt), I reverted to Outlook Express where a password can be made compulsery. I've read many posts regarding this topic and it seems that the only answer is to create different Windows accounts. We don't want here to use this method of multiple accounts. We just want on the same account a security that prevents anyone to launch WLM and enter the Email without a password. Any idea whether (and when) the security password would be introduced as in OE? Point it at the MSOE Message store folder, and import the .dbx folders for all other MSOE Identities. Voila! I have now gotten hold of everybody else's email! Anybody logged in to a given Windows user account has access to *ALL* of the data for that Windows account. If you want to secure your data against prying eyes, create your own LUA, and put a password on it. When you are ready to leave the console, log off. There is no other way to secure your data from other users on the computer. Sorry. It is the nature of the way that Windows XP works. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

| | Re: Will there be password protection on Windows Live Mail in the future? I would expect it to never happen. The password exists in OE only because of identities, which WLM doesn't have and likely never will. The security provided by the OE identity password is almost worthless. The best it will do is prevent a casual user from accidentally opening another person's mail. It is easily circumvented. As long as two people are operating under the same Windows logon, they have complete access to each others data. The only way to provide any level or security/privacy is to let the operating system handle it via separate Windows logons. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Gilles" <gdeloraine@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:eVwljwesIHA.1240@xxxxxx Quote: > Hello, > > I'm currently using Outlook Express and planned to move to WLM under > XP. > However, when I discovered that anyone could launch WLM on my computer > and skip password entry (by clicking Cancel at the prompt), I reverted > to Outlook Express where a password can be made compulsery. > I've read many posts regarding this topic and it seems that the only > answer is to create different Windows accounts. > > We don't want here to use this method of multiple accounts. > We just want on the same account a security that prevents anyone to > launch WLM and enter the Email without a password. > > Any idea whether (and when) the security password would be introduced > as in OE? > > Regards > > Gilles > > |

If you don't want other users to see your email, then there are other things you don't want them to see or mess with. I would never let my wife or one of my children have my Windows password for fear that they would move an icon or something. It is bad enough when they move the stuff on my desk. I am sure they do it on purpose... "User Profiles". I don't know how it works. I have never tried it. I saw it in Control Panel, Mail and I am guessing that it provides something similar to what you want. It is part of Microsoft Office.
