Can I use MS Outlook for the new Hotmail account?

I've always used Outlook Express even though I have Microsoft Outlook. The
reason I was forced to go with Windows Live Mail was to allow me to keep
checking Hotmail and three other account all with one app. I guess that
after the change over, Hotmail will no longer support DAV and will be using
the DeltaSynch protocol.
He's my questions:
Will Hotmail, after the cut-off date (DeltaSynch), work with "MS Outlook" as
the email client? Also, I have 3 systems, each with different versions of
Outlook ...ie...'97 - XP - 2003; Will DeltaSynch work with any of these?

Re: Can I use MS Outlook for the new Hotmail account?

I was told you needed to be a paying Hotmail (Live Mail) member to use
Hotmail (Live Mail) with Outlook. In fact, this was the only reason I became
one myself.

Am I paying for nothing? I'd really like a definitive answer on this. If all
I had to do was download this "Outlook Connector", then I've been led
astray.

Re: Can I use MS Outlook for the new Hotmail account?

Download the Outlook Connector for Outlook 2003 or 2007. I have
successfully used it with a free Hotmail account. Paid Hotmail accounts
have other features than being able to use Outlook. There is that
expiration of messages and accounts problem. I am not sure that accessing
my mail using Outlook constitutes logging in to the account to prevent
account expiration.

Paid Hotmail for $19.95 a year, jeez some people are cheap. Still, in your
situation you could be paying for nothing.

Cheers,

Earle

Re: Can I use MS Outlook for the new Hotmail account?

Sounds good for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, but it won't work for
Microsoft Office Outlook XP on my other machine, at least thats how the
download page reads.

Any ideas for Outlook XP?

I check Hotmail with Outlook 07 and I don't have a paid account. Will this
be changing or something?

Re: Can I use MS Outlook for the new Hotmail account?

The decision to deprecate the WebDAV server in lieu of the DeltaSync server was delayed.
If your account functions in OE it will continue to do so until further notice(email, web post etc).

Here's the notice concerning the WebDAV delay
http://emailsupport.spaces.live.com/...708!5745.entry

If you've Outlook 03 or 07 , the add-on Outlook Connector will also function for free and also grandfathered Hotmail
accounts(currently with the WebDAV and later with the DeltaSync).
- note a fee-based Hotmail account(Hotmail Plus) is required to sync with calendar, notes, and tasks.

Re: Can I use MS Outlook for the new Hotmail account?

Not at this time if not using the Outlook Connector(OLC). If the current WebDAV server is discontinued, then the OLC will be
required.

Re: Can I use MS Outlook for the new Hotmail account?

A paying account provides additional options with the current available Outlook Connector
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

<qp>
With a paid subscription, Outlook Connector enables these additional features:
Manage, share, and synchronize your calendar in Hotmail from Outlook.
Access your Tasks and Notes.
</qp>

Re: Can I use MS Outlook for the new Hotmail account?

With the current WebDAV protocol, if your account is a free account and grandfathered, the http server will continue to function
until WebDAV is deprecated in favor of DeltaSync.

Posted earlier in this thread: The decision to deprecate the WebDAV server in lieu of the DeltaSync server was delayed. If your
account functions in your email client it will continue to do so until further notice(email, web post etc).
Here's the notice concerning the WebDAV delay
http://emailsupport.spaces.live.com/...708!5745.entry

Once the DeltaSync protocol fully replaces WebDAV for a free or free-grandfathered accounts you've three options
if the account remains a free account.
- Windows Live Mail(WLM)
- Web Interface(mail.live.com)
- upgrade Outlook 97/XP to OL03 or 07 and use the Outlook Connector

Other Options:
- convert the account to a Hotmail Plus account($20/yr U.S., D.C, or Puerto Rico, and U.S. credit card) and use the pop3/smtp
servers to access your account(note: Pop3 does not sync with the Hotmail folders). Pop3 is capable in OE, OL, WLM, Vista Windows
Mail, and a few other 3rd party email clients.
