Vista or XP?

The fonts in my copy of Windows Live Mail are too big.
Hi Gary, Can you please let me know how to make smaller the fonts in Windows Live Mail? I just did a clean install of SP3 on Windows XP and as soon as I opened WLM (the lastest version), all the fonts in folders names, message subject, toolbar icons and compose window are somewhat larger than before. I don't know if it's related to SP3 though since I installed the service pack before and this change didn't occur. I looked everywhere in Windows and WLM to make the font smaller but couldn't find anything. This larger font issue is only present in Windows Live Mail. Sterling "Juliana" wrote:

Someone who has XP can advise you on the exact steps for that
OS, but based on my experiments with Vista, there are two ways to change font size in the message list pane and folder pane: 1) Change the font for the Windows icon text, and 2) Change the DPI (dots per inch). Compose window message text can be changed here: Tools, Options, Compose, Font Settings. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP "Sterling" <Sterling@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:82445C2C-4D97-48A9-AEFA-D2C0EED2BA7D@xxxxxx

Gary,
Thank you so much for the quick reply! I really appreciate it :-) I'm afraid that this is not what I meant. The font size in the compose window is as I want it to be, Arial 12. That's not the issue I am having. You know the folder list on the left side of the WLM window? Inbox, Sent, Deleted, Draft..., the text in those names are bigger than before, and it's only happening in WLM, not Windows as a whole. The samething is the case in the toolbar text icons in WLM. Once again, I really appreciate your prompt reply and help Gary, Sterling PS I'm going to do something I that maybe shouldn't but will uninstall Windows Live Mail, delete the Registry entry and reinstall to see if the text size changes. I'll post my findings (if Windows starts). "Gary VanderMolen" wrote:

When you say 'bigger than before', is it just the font size or is it
a different font? WLMail installs the Segoe UI font family to use for the program interface (Folder pane, Message list, Toolbar texts etc). If it can't use Segoe UI (because the font is damaged or missing), it should fall back on Arial, which 'looks' bigger. You should be able to tell whether it's Arial or Segoe UI by comparing some of the letter shapes, like a little 'e' or 'g' whose tails are more or less horizontal in Segoe but curled up in Arial. If you're seeing Arial and not Segoe UI, you may have to reinstall the font. This should happen if you close down WLMail, move the four Segoe UI files from your Windows\Fonts folder to somewhere else and then use Add or Remove Programs to repair your WLMail installation (Select Change and then Repair). If you're seeing Segoe UI at a larger size, your screen DPI may have changed. Right-click on the Desktop, select Properties > Settings. Check that your screen is operating at its native resolution, then click Advanced. Is the DPI setting Normal (96 dpi)? None of the Windows display appearance settings seems to affect font faces or sizes in the Folder pane etc. -- Noel "Sterling" <Sterling@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:72269AF1-57A5-476E-9E22-4EC00A9BD06E@xxxxxx

Hi Noel,
Yes! That is exactly what is happening - the font changes from Segoe UI to Arial. I thought it was the font size that changed, but it's the font itself. I just did what you suggested and it worked. Thanks so much! Here's the thing though - last night I uninstalled WLM, remove its entry from the Registry, reinstalled WLM and the font went back to Segeo UI. This morning when I opened WLM, the font went back to Arial. Do you know why this is happening? The DPI setting stayed the same - Normal (96 dpi), even if WLM goes back to Arial. Thanks Noel! Sorry, I've no idea why the program is not picking up the font on restart. If the font were damaged, I would expect it to fail earlier on. You should open a support ticket at https://support.live.com/default.asp...=wlmaildesktop and see if you get any sensible answers there. Otherwise, someone who knows more might drop in to help. -- Noel "Sterling" <Sterling@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:70CB1540-B41A-46C0-A652-65A9BE6A4681@xxxxxx
