Migrate from one PC to an other

Old PC : Win XP, Live Mail
New PC : Win Vista Home Premium, Live Mail

How do I migrate everything (mail, contacts, accounts) to the new PC?

Re: Migrate from one PC to an other

Regrettably that only gives you the first half of the process.
To complete the migration, the inverse (import) functions
would have to be invoked from the newly installed WLM.

Re: Migrate from one PC to an other

Hi, Thomas.

Depending on how handy you are with tools and computer hardware, it MAY be
easier to simply hook up the old PC's hard drive to the new PC temporarily
and have Vista's WLM Import the messages directly from the old HD. It also
depends on how much you have to move; for a small volume it would be easier
to use a USB flash drive or other transfer media.

Be sure to give yourself, as the Vista User, permission to access the files
and folder on the old drive. Otherwise, WLM will just tell you that there
are no files in that folder. This is a "permissions" issue, not a WLM
issue.

I've not used WLM in WinXP (only in Vista), and I'm not sure of the exact
steps to migrate the contacts, mail accounts and rules from WLM on WinXP to
Vista. The others here can give you tips on moving those. My migration
path was from OE to WM (several times during the Vista beta), and then (over
a year ago) from WM to WLM on Vista.
