How do I transfer emails to a file?

I am quite unable to file any of my incoming emails. Whenever I set up a
folder and try and drag a message from my inbox I get an 'unknown error has
occurred'. Any help to resolve this would be much appreciated. TIA

Re: How do I transfer emails to a file?

I think the success or failure of a drag and drop exercise depends
to some extent on the type of account and where the folder is you're
trying to move to. IMAP accounts will try to synchronize
simultaneously, whereas HTTP ones will wait for the next
Send/Receive. There *shouldn't* be a problem with POP accounts. I
find that right-click, Move to folder works every time and is much
less frustrating.

Re: How do I transfer emails to a file?

Thanks for the advice but I still get exactly the same error message when
right clicking on the message and then selecting the folder I want to move
to from the subsequent drop-down menu. All very frustrating!

Re: How do I transfer emails to a file?

I had a very similar problem. Every time I was trying to move
any mail to a different folder, WLM hanged. The way I got
out of it is this - Open WLM Tools, Options, Advanced,
Maintenance, and set the 'Compact the database on shutdown
every 1 runs'. It is normally set for 100. I can use the WLM now.
Just a suggestion.

Re: How do I transfer emails to a file?

Thanks, I'll try this, cannot see why it should work though, but if it did
for you it might for me. Closing WLM now!

Re: How do I transfer emails to a file?

Had no luck with your suggestion, I'm sorry to say. I wonder if I should
just install another copy over the present and hope it picks up the error
and leaves all my mail and ng's?

Re: How do I transfer emails to a file?

Bryan

before you re install secure the data, the location is in
Options-?Advanced->Maintenance->Store Folder, just COPY the folder to some
other place.

Longer term you may want to consider relocating it to somewhere that's more
accessible than having it buried inside the D&S maze.

uninstalling and reinstalling WLM will not ordinarily lose your mail &
newsgroups - but .....
