Disappearing emails

Good Afternoon
I am using Windows Mail and every now and then a new message arrives in my inbox list then disappears before I can open it. I don't know where it goes. I've checked the junk mail folder and all the others and it's not anywhere to be found. My server says it's a windows mail problem.

Hope you can help

Pat

Re: Disappearing emails

Which firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware or security suite is installed?
There are some that cause problems which don’t always appear immediately.

Re: Disappearing emails

Is this a POP3, IMAP or HTTP (Hotmail/MSN) account? If uncertain, look
in Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Servers.

If a POP3 account look at Tools, Message Rules, Mail. See if you have
any rules that might be moving or deleting messages.

Look in Tools, Safety Options, Blocked Senders.

Additionally, when looking at a mail folder, make sure that View,
Current View for that folder says to Show all Messages with nothing else
selected. Otherwise the message could be there but not visible.

Good Morning

Thanks for replying. I'm using a POP3 account and have checked all the things you suggested, but I see nothing that accounts for the lost emails. Maybe I should change to windows live mail.

Re: Disappearing emails

1. Ensure that View/Current View is set to show all messages.

2. Check your Junk Mail filter setting.
Tools/Junk-Email Options/
- uncheck Permanently delete suspected junk email instead of moving it to the Junk E-mail folder
- choose an appropriate setting for the other options.

Fyi...since this is the Windows Live Mail newsgroup, questions about Windows Mail can be posted to this forum

Thanks Winston, have all the settings in the correct position (I think). Hopefully this will correct the problem.

Re: Disappearing emails

You're welcome.
If I may ask, was it necessary to adjust those settings.

Re: Disappearing emails

To everyone who replied to my plea for help.

I found the missing emails located in: windows explorer/searches/ indexed locations. It seems they were marked as spam and sent to this location. I found a few other emails there also.

Thanks again
