Closing WLM

My Windows Live Mail doesn't shut down properly when I close it to shut
down. Then I receive one or more drafts when I log in again. The envelope
on the left bottom of the screen disappears, but the one on the right bottom
of the screen remains. I have tried closing it manually, but it doesn't
solve the problem. This happens intermittently.

Please help

Re: Closing WLM

If something is ending up in the drafts, that sounds like you may have
had a one or more message composition windows open when you went to
close WLM. Hold down the ALT key and press the TAB key and see what
pops up. Repeat. This will cycle through all the open programs. If a
WLM message window pops up, close it.

Re: Closing WLM

There is a shut-down bug in WLMail that may be the cause of your problem. It occurs when "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a Photo E-mail" is *un-checked*.

This option is available only when you are signed in, but if it is un-checked it still causes the shutdown bug even when not signed in.

So make sure the option "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a Photo E-mail" is *checked* at: Tools->Options->Send [tab] (available only when signed into Windows Live through WLMail).

If you do find that "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a Photo E-mail" is checked (which it is by default), then just uncheck it and click "Apply", then check it again and click "Apply" again.

Now, whilst this shut-down bug is due to the option "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a Photo E-mail" being un-checked, in my experience, it does not manifest until a new compose window, or a saved draft has been opened. Even if the new compose window or saved draft is closed without editing, saving, sending etc., WLMail will not shut down properly.

Re: Closing WLM

I don't think so, Michael, but I will remember your advice. It occurred
about 3 times on successive days, but fortunately it hasn't happened again
since my posting.
Thanks

Re: Closing WLM

Thanks for your reply, Peter.R, but I don't see that option or any option
relating to Photo E-mail at all under Tools, Options, Send. Fortunately my
WLM seems to be OK the last few days.

Re: Closing WLM

As Peter said, "This option is available only when you are signed in."
So, were you signed in with a Live ID?

Re: Closing WLM

Sorry, Gary! I assumed that when one used WLM one was logged into Windows
Live. But I see that I was wrong. I had looked at the facility when I
first got WLM and have, thus far, had no occasion to use it. Anyway I
haven't had the problem for some days now, but will try to remember the
solution if it recurs.

Thanks for the "nudge".

Re: Closing WLM

The only reason I use the Live login option is for the purpose of
having an up-to-date backup copy of my contacts available on
the web.
