What is WLM doing

(1) Every now and then, well, almost daily, WLM suddenly seems to grab the
machine. Disk activity goes through the roof and sometimes CPU activity for
WLM goes way up. I have no idea what is going on.

(2) When I send a message, I get the waiting cursor for extended periods of
time. Since the message just winds up in the Outbox, I'm not sure what WLM
is doing all that time.

Anyone have any answers? This program is really wearing me down. I'm running
on a 3.3Ghz box with lots of memory. I shudder to think of what will happen
when I bring it up on my "slow" 1.8Ghz boxes.

Re: What is WLM doing

Look in Tools, Options, Advanced, Maintenance. Have you set WLM to
purge news messages in the background?

Are you running Windows Desktop Search?

Is your anti-virus set to scan e-mail?

No.

Nope. Not unless that's part of WML that I don't know about.

Yes, and I've been down that road. I don't like the idea, but I'll turn it
off and see what happens. It seems to me though that the relationship
between the delay after clicking send is not related to message size. Some
of these message are awuflly short for that kind of delay. Under OE I rarely
saw more than a short delay.

Do you by any chance have an LDAP account set up? (Tools >
Accounts - it will normally be at the bottom of the list under
Contacts directory). If so, is the option to check e-mail addresses
selected? I can't give you precise directions to that option because
I don't have an account like that to check. This has been known to
delay sending for people who didn't even know they had such an
account.

Nope. And unlike I said in a previous message, outbound email scanning is
not enabled.
