Change Display Picture

Windows Live Mail, Windows XP, SP3. Have followed instructions and tried it
several times but to no avail. Any suggestions?

Re: Change Display Picture

Old Codger,
I am by no means an expert on display pictures..but testing a few scenarios it appears WLM uses Messenger's(WLMsgr) picture with
precedent to the picture chosen in WLMsgr interface instead of the online profile.
Adding an picture in the Online Profile, doesn't necessarily make it an available option in the local WLMsgr client.

To change your display pic in WLM.
Open IE, Logon to the Live ID profile, delete the assigned photo under Messenger appearance, close IE.
Open WLMsgr, assign(browse) a Photo. WLM will use it.

I also noted that if one later opens IE and logs on to Hotmail(mail.live.com) the Live ID icon in the SignIn Assistant still used
an earlier picture. Possibly a delayed(?) sync issue. Clearing the cache did not have an immediate impact.

I could have this entirely wrong too<g>. Maybe others using both WLM and WLMsgr will chime in on how the relationship to WLM,
WLMsgr, and the SignIn Assistant functions(or is supposed to function).

Sorry, can't offer more info beyond changing in WLMsgr's application changes the display on this machine in WLM.

Re: Change Display Picture

winston, I saw that your replies to some topics appear as a new topic. Please
be careful about it. I am replying to one of your replies but in the Old
Codger's original thread, not in your new thread. Don't be confused. Now
about the issue;

It is wrong that wlmail's "Change display picture" feature takes people to
Windows Live Profile page to change the picture from there. However it is
wrong and wl mail cannot retrieve a display picture from that server. Because
as far as I understand, the picture in wl mail completely depends on wl
messenger's display picture. Unless your messenger display picture changes,
there is no way you can change the picture in wl mail's corner.

The picture in windows live profile's Messenger Appearance section is
related with Messenger but people must know that, if they didn't tick the
option "Use the same display picture and personal message everywhere I sign
in" which is in Messenger Options, then the relation between Messenger and
Windows Live Profile is broken. While that option is unchecked, even if you
change your Messenger display picture from Messenger itself or from Windows
Live profile page, then none of them can update each other. For example, say,
you changed your display picture from Windows Live Profile and then you
signed in Messenger. Now, that new picture will not come to Messenger
automatically because the roaming option in Messenger is not checked. Also
when you change the display picture from with in Messenger, then you cannot
see that picture in Windows Live Profile because Messenger doesn't send that
picture to the servers. But whatever you selected for the roaming option,
when you change the display picture from Messenger, then it immediately
appears in wl mail's corner as well.

And another thing about the pictures which we see in sign in pages of
Windows Live (provided that sign in assistant program is installed on the
computer). Here if the roaming option in Messenger is not selected, then the
picture in sign in page will not update. I don't know why but I tried this
many times. To conclude, people should install and sign into Messenger if
they want to change their display picture in wl mail.

Re: Change Display Picture

ahmetgns,
Not sure if in your explanation 'new topic's equate to 'new posts', if the latter....

Iirc, the last thread I started in this forum was about 1 month ago on May 5th and only by forwarding a message from another forum.
"Re: MSFT - ANN: Responding to Customer Feedback - Disabling DAV"

If not the latter, care to point to this 'new topic' from your vantage point, I'd certainly entertain rereading my responses(even
though your recent comment has absolutely no relevance whatsoever to this thread)

Feel free to send feedback about the display concerns

Re: Change Display Picture

I am talking about your this reply:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...8-1b5f9bac6198
Now, is it clear?

Also, how doesn't my last comment have a relevance to this thread. I was
talking exactly about the things which are discussed in this thread.

Re: Change Display Picture

....winston, I see what Ahmet is getting at. You're using communities
support features, which channels posts through some sort of proxy.
The headers for the post I'm now replying to include

X-MS-CommunityGroup-PostID: {3BF3DD34-C720-4E20-9B89-039973E6FBC4}
X-MS-CommunityGroup-ThreadID: E4C3E05F-B1CC-4400-AE3C-D1FEB1B5B24F
X-MS-CommunityGroup-ParentID: 04CF8D8E-6D52-4165-AA5D-8041DBA22901

whereas your previous post in the thread had
X-MS-CommunityGroup-MessageCategory:
{E4FCE0A9-75B4-4168-BFF9-16C22D8747EC}
X-MS-CommunityGroup-PostID: {54797A9C-37A9-43C0-A278-1B5F9BAC6198}

which makes it appear as a new thread in the web interface because
the ThreadID and ParentID are missing. It would take a lot of
digging to establish where the difference arises - perhaps you just
happened to hit a server with a different configuration. The
Reference headers look to be normal.

The communities stuff has got a lot better, but it's clearly not
operating 100% yet, which is why I've switched it off again in
WLMail.

Re: Change Display Picture

No, it is not...
I see your problem, believing in the accuracy of threading within the CDO web user interface and its ability to properly tag a post
as a question or a reply.

Try looking at this thread in an nntp client. That same post originated using WLM and ***is*** in the correct thread.
Look at these pictures..the nntp shows 7 posts in this thread, 6 are shown in the web interface.
- The nntp client(WLM) logs it at 4:47 EST(my time zone); in the web 1:47 PST

In the future you might consider using WLM's nntp capabilities.
The link below will set-up this newgroup in WLM.

Is it clear now? (in case you missed it, a discussion occurred on this topic a few days ago and in this same forum!)

The lack of relevance was in claiming the post was 'a new topic'.

p.s. Fyi...after this post, there will be 8 in the nntp, hopefully 7 in the web ui, though I doubt you'll find too many to wager on
that!
