Progress bar

I remember that, every time I was checking my mail with OE, a window with a progress bar
would pop up, detailing the actual operation ( sending messages, receiving messages,
etc. ).
Apparently there is no way I can display it with WLM, to the best of my knowledge. Am I
missing something ?
Thanks.

Mike

Re: Progress bar

Hi, Mike.

That windows is still there, but it disappears as soon as it finishes
checking the mail - UNLESS you push in the Pushpin to keep it open.

First click View and make sure the Status Bar is turned on. Then watch the
far right end of the Status Bar (at the bottom right corner of your screen,
just above the clock) as you click Send/receive. You should see some
messages (Authorizing, Connecting, Checking Mail, etc.) that appear for just
a few moments and then disappear again. While those messages are showing,
click on one. The progress window should appear. (On the Task Bar it
appears as "Windows Live Mail"; you should also see the open WLM
application, identified as "Unread e-mail" or whatever WLM folder is open at
the moment.)

In that progress window, look in the lower right corner to see the Pushpin.
If it is lying on its side, just click on it to "stick in in". From now on,
the progress window should remain open until you close it by clicking the
usual X in the red corner or by clicking "Hide" - or by clicking the Pushpin
again to unstick it.

As I recall, OE worked the same way.

Yes. Click on it when you see it each time WLMail comes up.
That will open the Status window and let it stay open provided
you set its pushpin (e.g. in bottom right corner of the Details >>
view. So the only real significant difference is that it doesn't
open up automatically the first time you use Send and Receive.
Well, it's also a PITA that you have to wait for that Status bar
item to show to use it instead of just being able to doubleclick
in its pane in the Status bar but that's another story... <eg>

A treble-click on Send/receive seems to do it.

The only toolbar that I have Send/Receive active in
is for the composition window. I'd be worried about posting
my message too many times to try that there. ; )

Besides which if that works why the heck doesn't just
doubleclicking on the Reading pane button do something
useful?
