Is this thing still working on latest build of WLM (12.0.1606) I don't want
to show my Messenger display name in wl mail's corner.

That was almost a year ago; it was so bizarre that it got changed in
the gold version.
If you want a different display name to show in WLMail, sign in with
a different Live ID. If you want none at at all, Tools > Connection
