Can't View Images in E-mail Offline

I have two problems trying to view images in e-mail offline.

The first is with my POP3 (Yahoo!) and HTTP (WL Hotmail) accounts. It seems
unless I click on a message once and view it in say the preview pane while
working online, it won't display any images when I try to view the e-mail
offline. I have all my messages from the establishment of the accounts
available in WLM, but most of them are from before I started using WLM.
Therefore, I have never previewed hardly any of them in WLM, only through the
websites. This is annoying because I would like to sometimes view a past
e-mail when offline, but not know in advance, while online, which one. So
how do I get around opening every e-mail I have online just so the images
will be ready for me offline? Also, will the images still stay downloaded on
my computer after a restart of my computer or only for that session?

The second problem is trying to even view images offline with my IMAP
(Google) account. As opposed to the above POP3 and HTTP accounts, when I
click on an e-mail and view it online it will not make the images available
for viewing later offline. But, like above I don't wish to to that either
just to view an e-mail with images offline. In WLM, there appears to be a
column "mark for offline". However, it doesn't seem that straightforward to
use. What should happen with images for IMAP and what should I do?

Thanks!

Re: Can't View Images in E-mail Offline

You are probably running into the case where the sender did not include
the images with the message, but rather has links to a web site that has
the actual image.

In that case, images are not downloaded until you open the message, and
even then it depending on your settings in Tools, Safety Options,
Security of allowing the download of external images.

And even then, the external images are downloaded to the IE Temporary
Internet Files, where you can't count on them staying forever.

If the sender actually included the images with the message, you
shouldn't have nay problems viewing the images offline.

So, there is no way to truly back-up an e-mail, since you can't back-up the
linked images, which are actually on remote servers? What do I do if the
links fail one day, because the images have been deleted from the sender's
servers?

So is there an easy way to open a lot of messages at once?

Thanks for the info.

Re: Can't View Images in E-mail Offline

I don't know of any practical way save the images. Anything I could
think of would take a lot of manual work on your part for each message.

You have the same issue with any links in an e-mail. Eventually they
may stop working because of changes at the web sites they point to.

And just opening the message would give at best temporary fix. To be
permanent, you'd have to save the images to your hard disk. Then edit
the message source to point to saved images.

You could try dragging it to an IE window, opening it there
and then doing a File Save As... Web Page Complete (.mht)
In fact, if you're lucky you could see if just saving the E-mail
in WLMail using that extension (while being online and in
HTML mode in order to fully render the document) would be
enough. I doubt it but you could compare the two files to
see which one was bigger... <eg>

Note: you can't drag an E-mail directly, you have to make
it an attachment of a dummy message and then drag it from
that window's attachment list. (E.g. press Menu,w first.)

Try to remember the way it once was? <eg>

What are you getting at? Just select as many as you want
using either Shift- (for a contiguous range) or Ctrl- (for specific
ones) and then press Enter...

Saving the e-mail in WLMail using the .mht extension (while being online and
in HTML mode in order to fully render the document was possible, but did not
make a self-contained file. As soon as I dumped the TIF folder and loaded
the .mht file it could not render any images offline.

However, dragging an e-mail to an IE window from the attachment list of a
dummy e-mail (or a saved attachment from that list), opening it there, and
then doing a File Save As... Web Page Complete (.mht) did accomplish the
job.

So my question now is: How do I open several of these attachments
individually and save/save-as them as a .mht file quickly and easily? Is
there any way to create a batch file that could perform these operations?
