I just want to use Outlook Express

I have had my hotmail e-mail address for years and just want to continue to
use that address with Outlook Express. I use OE at work and can't understand
why I now am being told that I am not allowed to use it at home. I thought
that both OE and Hotmail were Microsoft, so I would have thought that they
could resolve whatever technical difficulties they had. It is very
frustrating. It didn't help that I have had to fiddle around to get the
spell checker to work for UK English. There are quite a few of us here in
the UK so why they didn't provide us with a proper dictionary in the first
place is beyond me.

Re: I just want to use Outlook Express

You can continue to use Outlook Express (except on Vista).
The previously announced discontinuation of Hotmail compatibility
in Outlook Express has been postponed indefinitely.

Re: I just want to use Outlook Express

Hello,

Please excuse me for being a bit out of tune on this but have just become
aware of the change to WLM.

I use XP with OE for one main mail account with my ISP and for newsgroups.
Other mail is handled quite well with private mail service. I have no
hotmail or other msn or ms usage online.

Am I correct in assuming I can continue to use OE without getting mired in
the WLM program?

Somehow I have the feeling I missed something along the way

Thank you

Re: I just want to use Outlook Express

Info posted earlier in the Annex Cafe.
Yes, you can continue to use OE for free-grandfathered accounts and subscription based hotmail/live/msn.com accounts using the
WebDAV protocol(for the time being, the protocol change from WebDAV to DeltaSync) has been delayed. Indefinitely may be too strong
a word, since the switch to the new protocol is not completely out of the question in the future
You can read about it hear..

Re: I just want to use Outlook Express

Since you aren't using Hotmail or MSN, none of the announcements
regarding OE and Hotmail apply to you.

Nothing is changing in Outlook Express. Which is what the whole issue
is about.

Microsoft wanted to force migrate Hotmail users off of one HTTP mail
protocol (Web DAV) to a newer one (Delta Synch). But Microsoft did not
want to update OE for that. Leaving OE Hotmail users in a bind. That
forced migration has been indefinitely postponed.

The POP3, IMAP, SMTP and NNTP support in OE will remain as is forever.
Since those are all Internet standards, you have no problem. (The HTTP
mail protocol is unique to Microsoft).

Re: I just want to use Outlook Express

I am new to the forum and also new to owning a Vista computer. At the moment we are running XP Pro on our old computer with Microsoft Outlook for emails, all going well, considering that the computer is over 6 years old. Our son in law has just given us his 'old' 18month old Acer computer running Vista Premium on it. He set it up at his own place with Microsoft Outlook and was able to download all our emails, but when we got the computer home I tried to answer them or forward them on, and was greeted with the error message that WAB.DLL was not able to be found and it refuses to allow me to send, reply or even add addresses to the address book. Is this because Microsoft Outlook 2000 is not compatible with Vista? I have been researching the net, and have read that this could be the problem, if so, how do I get another email program running similar to outlook?
I am OK with handling computers, but when it comes to things like this, I am totally out of my depth. Son in Law can't understand why it does not work either.
HELP, PLEASE

Re: I just want to use Outlook Express

What the poster above was probably trying to tell you was that you need
to post your query here...

microsoft.public.outlook

which _is_ an outlook newsgroup.

Hope this helps.

Russel
