Desktop Icon for Live Mail

Can anyone tell me how I get an icon to display on my desktop for Live Mail?
I have it working okay on my computer, but the only way I can access it is to
go to the START button and type in Windows Live Mail in the search box. Same
for Windows Photo Gallery too. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Desktop Icon for Live Mail

The program to start WLM is

"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe"

You can go there, then Right click it and select Create Shortcut and
then drag that to the desk top.

Start, All Programs, find the program, right-click on it, Send To, Desktop.

Re: Desktop Icon for Live Mail

Hi, Larry.

Since I use WLM so often, I like to have it readily available in several
places. So...

First, of course, it is in Start | All Programs | Windows Live Mail.
Also, of course, in Windows Explorer: C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows
Live\Mail
It's an icon on my Desktop, which you asked for and others told you how to
do. You also can just drag-n-drop from the Start Menu to the Desktop.

And I right-clicked on it in the Start menu and chose Pin it to the Start
Menu. It appears "above the line" in Start and doesn't disappear if I don't
use it for a while, as it would if it were below the line. Or I could have
just dragged it from below the line to above the line.

And from the same right-click menu, I chose Add to Quick Launch. Or I could
have dragged it from Start and dropped it in QL. (I don't even have to
click it; since it's the 4th icon in QL, I can launch it by pressing
<Start>+4. That's the numeral 4 from the top row of keys; it won't work
with the 4 on the numeric keypad.) ;<)

We all use Vista differently, so we can all choose different applications
and different shortcuts to them. Windows Photo Gallery can be started in
all those ways, too, and so can almost any application. My QL now has 8
visible icons, plus a dozen more on the menu that pops up when I click the
"chevrons". There are 6 apps pinned to my Start menu. And (too!) many
icons on my Desktop! :^}

Re: Desktop Icon for Live Mail

I like WLM to start with this newsgroup.
"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe"
/newsurl:news:microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop
Actually, I leave WLM running and switch to this newsgroup.
