Help - Basic rules of using WLM

I have created some sub-folders under 'Storage Folders' group,
and created Message Rules, so that as the message arrive,
they automatically move on to their selected folders.

Here is my problem - I cannot select all of these folders at the
same time to make the messages 'read'. Why did WLM forgot to
make this 'select all' feature? Am I missing something?

Further, under 'Quick views', all of the newly arrived mails do
show-up as un-read, provided they were at each accounts
individual 'Input' file. But if they were moved by a message rule,
WLM ignores those messages as newly arrived message.
Is there anyway I can make those messages as newly arrived
message?

Appreciate all the help and comments.

Re: Help - Basic rules of using WLM

Afaik, select all folders is not an option in WLM. I use Outlook 03/07 for a few other email account and that option(select all an
mark read) is not present. Its been quite some time since I used Outlook Express for email, was that 'feature' present in OE ?

I am not sure what is meant by an 'Input' file. Do you mean Inbox ?

If I add a rule to move messages from one account's Inbox(upon delivery) to a subfolder in the storage folder my Quick Views(Unread
Mail, and All Inbox) shows the correct count. In this specific case 6 messages were delievered to 3 accounts. One account was set
to move messages to a storage folder subfolder(it received 2 of the 6 messages). Quick Views showed 6 'Unread e-mail' and 4 'All
Inbox', I.e. the correct count of all the the correct inbox count.

Re: Help - Basic rules of using WLM

I don't understand why you need to select all of the folders.
If you are not going to read the messages going to a folder, then add Mark
as read to the move rule.

Yes

Yes (As you can see, when we get old, we forget, even the names)

Not always. I have 4 accounts. Two Hotmail and two POP3 accounts. As mail arrive, under 'Quick
views', 'All inbox' shows part of newly arrived messages for Hotmail accounts and part of the POP3
account messages. ( I cannot set any 'message rule' to automatically move messages for the hotmail
accounts). Since my POP3 account has mail 'message rules' to move messages to sub folders, the 'All
inbox' does not always count or show all of the mail arrived in the POP3 account. Seems like the
'message rules' messes up the 'All inbox' counting.

I have a large number of sub folders (over two hundred!), because I receive bundle of engineering
and technical papers for the library on different subjects, every day. I need a way to select all
of the folders to mark then 'read' as I did in OE. In the 'Quick views', neither 'Unread e-mail'
nor 'All inbox' do show all of the newly arrived messages for all 4 of my accounts.

Re: Help - Basic rules of using WLM

If the Quick views counter is not accurate, it may be corrupt.
Like Steve Austin, it can be repaired.

Message rules do not function on Http(hotmail, live, and msn.com)accounts.

Thank you so much for the Live Mail counter repairing info. I am about to
get to the registry and clean the mess. Thanks again.

I don't see how this addresses Ron's point
(unless you are now vaguely implying that
changing your rules might be a lot of work.)

Are these folders in an identifiable hierarchy?
In particular is that identification available
to you in a Find window (Ctrl-Shift-F)?

Of course not--you move them to a different,
unmonitored location.

What happens if before you do a receive you have
a Find window open which is set to view all unread
messages in the top node of the different location?
Then you would be able to press Ctrl-a, Ctrl-q
and mark them all "Read".
