Opening paper clip attachments in OE 6

When I recieve a paper clip attachment in OE and chose to open it, it opens
with WLM. How can I fix this?

You can only have one program associated with an email application file type(eml).
You may have to choose which email client your prefer to open an *.eml file.

It doesn't take OE as long as it does WLM to open the attachments, so I'll
just leave it this way.

If I decide I want WLM as my eml to open an eml file how do I change it
back?

Right click a saved EML file from the Windows File Explorer. Then
select Open With, Choose Program. Select Windows Live Mail from the
list and check the box to Always use this program and then click OK.

Also, does that right-click procedure update HKCU as well as HKLM?
E.g., in order to get OE to recapture at least the mailto function
I had to delete WLMail's override for that one in HKCU.
Apparently WLMail defines its file type associations there
whereas msimn.exe /reg only updates in HKLM.

I haven't bothered testing to find out if wlmail.exe /reg
also only resets in HKLM. If so, the other observation
would be a quirk of the WLMail installation procedure.

It seems to be enough if WLM is already on the Right click menu for EML
files, which is should be.

I accidently clicked the Restore button for the EML file type which set
OE back as the default. Going through the procedure I described set WLM
back as the default.

I can't always tell looking at the registry what the default program is.
For some file types seems to be competing programs and I don't know how
Windows decides.

Currently looking at Windows Explorer, Folder Options, File Types, for
EML it says the description is "EML File" and opens with Windows Live
Mail (which it does). But when using Windows Explorer, EML files show
with a description of "Outlook Express Mail Message".

The registry for [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.EML] points to
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft Internet Mail Message] where shell\open
lists msimn.exe (OE) but as I said above, it actually opens with WLM.

But the registry also has

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.EML]
"Application"="wlmail.exe"
