Vista - unable to login and retrieve email from my hotmail account

When installing Windows Live Mail i was asked to setup an initial account.

I provided my live ID and password and got the reply that my ID was non
existent.

I can acces my mail via the web and from my messenger so the account really
does exist, is active and operational.

However from Windows Live Mail i cant get acces.
I have tried a different hotmail ID i have and that works fine.

Could it be something with long passwords and uncommon characters in the
password that is preventing me to login??

It really shouldn't matter about passwords as WLM uses the standard Windows
Live ID authentication system, the exact same as hotmail.
As a test you could try changing your password temporarily, shorten it a
little and take out some of more obscure characters (although I have
non-standard characters in my password and WLM works fine with it) just to
see if WLM can connect. If it does then you know what the problem is. You
can always change your password back to what it currently is after the test.
