Urgent recovery HELP!!!

I have been using Windows Live Mail since march, with my POP3 account. Just
a few ours ago I accidently deleted the Mail Account from Windows Live Mail
and all of my emails were deleted. I have been able to recover the emails
from before I started using Windows Live Mail, back before March. I need all
of these other emails. Is there anyway to recover them back to Windows Live
Mail.

I am freaking out because of this, please post any info that can help me.
Thanks.

Re: Urgent recovery HELP!!!

Sorry, I don't know of any way to recover those deleted emails, short of
employing a professional undeleting service (very expensive!).

Although WLM does warn you that emails will be deleted when you delete
an account, the warning is in a fairly small font and is easily overlooked.
In my opinion, WLM should automatically move those messages to a
folder under the Storage folders.

Re: Urgent recovery HELP!!!

Emails are stored as individual .eml files somewhere in
C:\Users\(youraccount)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail

Restore them from your backup to a temporary location and import them back
into WLM, so they will be indexed.

If you don't have a backup, you might try to undelete them with a program
like Recuva
http://www.recuva.com/
However, the more you use the computer after deleting, the less likely the
recovery will be.

Re: Urgent recovery HELP!!!

If you don't have 'Leave a copy of messages on server' selected at
account properties > Advanced, then you will only recover them from
your own machine. When you do a compaction, WLMail produces a backup
copy of your entire message store database, so this might help. Do a
search for files called Mail.MSMessageStore, and if you find one
dated before your deletion, you may be in luck. Copy it to a safe
place so it doesn't get overwritten, and wait until some expert
<ping Peter.R> comes along to tell you how to use that file to
reconstruct the messages you seem to have deleted.

Otherwise you'll have to rely on undelete applications to find .eml
files and hope for the best. And start living up to your screen name
by taking regular backups of important files.

Re: Urgent recovery HELP!!!

Assuming all is lost, then do the least amount possible on your system,
except to get yourself copes of Recuva and Undelete Plus,

If you don't have a second HDD on your system, then beg, steal or borrow a
USB drive from a friend - a 1-2G flash drive is OK providing you can empty
it.

Use the Recuva & DeletePlus utilities to recover .eml files from your system
drive to separate directories (one for Recuva the other for Undelete Plus)
on that other drive, if you could not get another drive then create the
folders on your C : drive.

Don't recover files that cant be fully recovered. I cannot give detailed
instructions here, because there are too many ifs and buts. If you are not
comfortable operating this sort of software then get a friend to help. The
software has a pretty face, no command line stuff.

You should now have two directories "recuva mails" and "undelete mails",
open the "recuva emails" folder, select all, copy the files to the "undelete
mails" folder, you will get duplicates, probably a lot, skip the duplicates.
You now have all the recoverable emails in that "undelete emails" folder -
hopefully lots of them. They are text files so you can see them via
File->Open in Notepad - but don't change them in Notepad.

I would uninstall WLMail using Revo Uninstall, I would then reinstall and
set up your POP3 account. Now I would create a folder in Storage folders
called "__UndeletedMail" into which I would import the .eml files in
"undelete mail". I would then refile the each email in __UndeletedMail to
where it belongs.

I reckon you should get 90% of your mail back assuming you had a 2nd drive,
if you did it all on one drive you'll should get at least 75% recovery.

Now read what winston said about backup and implement an appropriate process
so this does not happen again:-)

Re: Urgent recovery HELP!!!

Good evening,

I do not know if this will help but because you are desperate I thought I
would post what little I know.

I undeleted a file with very important information and no one knew how to
assist me except to suggest I purchase a similar software as was suggested to
you.

Because I was ignorant of what my software could and could not do I decided
to take a chance on what the instructions said it could do.

I use Vista Home Premium which has a restore feature I have used many times
in the past. However, what I read is that it also has a restore feature for
individual files. I followed the prompts and found my file. I understand XP
also has this feature.

If you have Vista or XP, go to the start button and type Restore. Follow
the prompts to restore files. I know WLM has a backup file entitled Live
Mail Emails written in blue ink. And it can be accessed through restore
files (I just tried it). Prayerfully you will find your files there. Live
Mail Emails can be found under your user name.

Just a thought but one I hope will be helpful.

God Bless you.

Re: Urgent recovery HELP!!!

Nissi1

I suggest restore will only work if you backup

Restore is only available on XP Home if you know where to to find it on the
XP Install CD and how to install it

If you've done a backup since you deleted the file, and you are not doing
cyclic backups then I don't think restore would find it.

The impression I have is that the OP had no back ups

The utilities I recommended are both free and come from very reputable
outfits, I would never recommend payware without including the price

Cheers - I wonder where techman28 went, he never came back, must have
freaked right out
