I want to know whether livemail Desktop download mail to my hard disk.

Dear Sir,

I installed the live mail desktop into my laptop, and setup it as the
hotmail client. It can be used properly. But, I want to know whether the
live mail desktop download mail to my hard disk, and delete the mails at the
server side at the same time. If my laptop crashes, and I have to reinstall
the windows XP operation system, everything, including emails, will be
deleted. After the system is reinstalled, can I synchronize emails,
including all the old emails, with the hotmail server? Thank you.

Best regards,

Alan

That's the way it works with Hotmail (and IMAP accounts); your
messages will be stored both on the server and locally. You can do
this with POP accounts as well, by selecting "Leave a copy of
messages on server" at Tools > Accounts > [account] > Properties >
Advanced.

Received and sent emails will be stored on the server with Hotmail (and IMAP
accounts).
Only received emails can be saved on pop servers, plus there is a limit to
the amount of storage.

Re: I want to know whether livemail Desktop download mail to my hard disk.

To add.
Mails deleted locally in WLM or via the Hotmail interface will be deleted from both after the next syncrhonization.
After a XP reinstall, only messages remaining on the remote Hotmail server will synchronize with the local client.

Consider backing up your mail if you desire to retain a copy and delete the original.

One might also consider backing up the Windows Live Mail msi installation file for later use to reinstall WLM.
